Airmiles Armchair Chatter

Looking at hotels now that bookings are with Expedia.

Did the value of the Air Miles go down?

I thought before that $200CAD was 1900Airmiles same as if redeeming for e-vouchers. (95 Am for $10 voucher) But my searches were showing 2000 Airmiles was needed for a $200 hotel credit.

My exploration of the Expedia website for hotels was definitely higher $ than when I last checked on RedTag.
It's like the "we are going to cover taxes and fees" is just a way of now increasing the costs and devaluing the Airmile ratio.
Just my thoughts.

I just checked the hotel I had booked recently in Fort Lauderdale. Room per Expedia $226 or 2262AM, room per hotel website $222 converts to 2109AM (both before taxes). Difference is 153AM or $16. Definitely what they used to charge on the Airmiles site as a booking fee. Some more expensive reservations would end up paying a slightly higher fee with Expedia's new method of simplifying the conversion.

As with all redemptions (travel or merchandise) using Airmiles, you've got to do your math to see what the best option is before proceeding.

I also am happy to receive my AM earlier than expected. We got lots of cheese (494+50AM). I hope the most recent offer posts early also.

Side note. They don't seem to have included the original AM earned in the Bonus of 500 Max. I earned 26AM on two separate transactons. 26*20=520. I received 520-26=494. In the past the original earn was included in the 500 Max total and I would have received 474AM. Happy to have the new way of calculating things.

Well I just crashed out my remaining Airmiles for some Gift Cards and now I am down to 200 Airmiles left.:magnify:
My Scene+ points are doing well.

Still hopeful for the new Blue Points, 1774290298906.png
but with Shell leaving I have few options open right now. (Pharmasave ,Global Pet)
I am just not a big online shopper and rarely use BMO credit card.

I have been cashing out my miles for evouchers for various stores. Got new computer speakers, kobo accessories and a kettle at Best Buy, got an evoucher for Dollarama and got some more for Tim Hortons and won a few coffee & donut prizes during the roll up promo. Now to cash all them in.
I still have tons of points to use so will decide what I want to do with them.

Now that I have used my bigger stash of AM on flights I think I will use them going forward for various e-vouchers. Without the 3 boys at home eating and no grocery stores I am also limited as to where I earn the miles these days. An e-voucher here and there will suit me just fine.

I used all my points too- lots of fun things, but now airmiles poor!
Concert tickets to Ed Sheeran this summer!
New Shokz ear buds ( way more comfortable than AirPods)
3 nights hotel In Prague
1 night hotel in Zurich
Thermal spa pass in Budapest
Sail gift card

I got a CIBC Aeroplan visa for the free bags as I have 2 Air Canada flight for this year , but it appears that building up points for flights will
Be a slow process as you don’t get all the bonus points you used to be able to get with airmiles, and can see that VISA being only for a year.

I will keep my airmiles MC for now as we shop at Costco , but will be looking out for some other points cars.
