Airline seat - plane full sitting apart - kid on his own

I booked my flight with either Expedia or Opodo (have used both in the past, but can't remember which one was last year!) and while I could book my seats ahead, it wasn't straight away - I can't remember the timescales, but I'd phoned the airline to find out the date. I've just done a mock run through on Opodo for Air France flights from Edinburgh to Boston and I may be blind, but I don't see anywhere before the payment page that allows you to view which seats are available? I alwys buy my tickets and then try to book seats.

Thought the OP mentioned they were flying Delta but maybe that's a booking engine and not an airline??

I'm assuming they booked a Delta flight through something like Opodo (the OP had previously asked about booking flights through Holiday Genie & another company). I know people who book Virgin & BA directly through the airline, but most are done through a third party (though I could be making completely wrong assumptions - OP, come back!)

No seat on any flight is guaranteed unless paid for. When we pick our seats we know that we may not be sitting in the ones we have picked. I am sure when you check in you will not have a problem

Only on a nonstop flight if its a connecting flight they have to be 8 years old
To the OP Id say they will try get you together I have seen this on plenty of flights most people don't mind moving to keep young children with family's :)

if the parents are on the flight, then it's not considered connecting - the child isn't really flying alone ..

i was on a flight with a 5 year old in front of me sitting alone with his 7 year old sister........the parents were at the other end of the plane......

Gosh that is young. There is no way my DD who is five could manage on a flight alone.

i know - isn't it CRAZY!!! i can't imagine sending a 5 year old alone on a flight....any flight....but especially long flights...
but in the summer and at holidays you see zillions of them being herded around in the US.....
during the whole ash cloud thing, i really let a colleague of mine have it when he put his 8 year old daughter on a plane by herself from europe to the US...i said how could he do that given the situation...she could end up stuck for days somewhere by herself!! i still think he should have flown with her to the states (to take her to see her grandparents)...he claimed it was a non-stop so it didn't matter...and i said, what happens if the plane is diverted? as can easily happen....ash clouds, hurricanes, mechanical problems, etc

Flight was booked with opodo. Only after getting the booking ref could I go onto delta airlines website and allocate seats.

And of course flight is non-refundable.

LHR to BOS we're OK. Its only BOS - MCO leg.

I think they will move people to accomadate you,

We had this problem with AA from mia to cun and it was just me and dh and i am a bad flyer and the crew moved people before we left the ground

It maybe the case that only a portion of the seats can be allocated online, this is what va does so you might be abke to change these at check in at lhr

And, for U.S. carriers, the seat you paid for is not guaranteed either. You are guaranteed a seat on the plane, not a specific one. It is in all of the commercial airlines contract of carriage. I just hope that they speak to the people they are moving before they do it to make sure they are okay with it as well. Some people do have a terrible fear of flying and need to sit next to their loved ones as well.

OP - thanks for the clarification. I would call Delta and see if there is something they can do for you know. Maybe there are seats together that are not showing up online. Good luck.

Worth a try

I know I was able to get seats at the off airport check in facility when we were split up with
Their computer system is tied into the airlines so they were able to change our seats so we could sit together and. :wizard:
