My family always flies using USAirway. This year we are looking into other airlines because of price. Has anyone flown using United in the East coast. I was extremely happy with USAir and am unsure about the quality and safety of other airlines. If you have any recommendations on United or any other airline suggestion, please post. Thanks a bunch!!

We are in New York and I just found air fare from JFK to Orlando in May for $135 R/T!!!! I could not believe it!!! I booked it on the spot. We are leaving 5/17 (my birthday!) and returning on 5/24.

This is on Delta Express which I have flown before and never had a problem. We have the 7:30 am flight out in the morning and are returning on a 7:30 pm flight on the 24th.

I booked at www.delta.com

We usually always fly out of Newark, but all those rates were above $200 pp. Just on a whim I tried from JFK and could not belive the rates. So what if it is a bit more travel time to JFK...it will be worth it!!! We fly Continental quite a bit and never had a problem with them either, but this time their fares were not comprable to Delta.

My husband flies from Virginia on United regularly. It's as good as any of the others, I suppose. I've had delays, lost luggage and rude staff with more than half a dozen different airlines over the years. I've also had great service and wonderful staff on the same airlines over the years. At this point, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the major carriers. Smaller carriers may offer a bit of a change, but for the big 3 or 4, you're looking at pretty much the same standard of service, IMHO.

Not that it helps much in this instance, but when flying internationally, I prefer one of the international airlines. They seem to have offered me consistantly better service over the years.

We use United regularly for international a lot and as mentioned they are about the same with other airlines.

For domestic we seem to be on Delta quite a bit other than United. A little better price on Delta. When we lived in Ohio we used Continental a lot. If you are close to a Continental hub I would suggest you look into it.

I am not sure where in PA you are, but on our last trip USAir prices 7-months out were outrageous for the days we wanted to fly ($400+/person). Even though we had a miserable experience with Spirit Airlines out of Atlantic City years before, we decided to try again. I am glad we did. Our tickets were $175/person (very cheap for Dec.) and it was a fabulous experience. We could not have asked for anything better, even arrived early on our way home. If Atlantic City is a resonable drive for you I would highly recommend them.

We flew United last December from Harrisburg (MDT) to Orlando and had no problem. The flights connected through Washington/Dulles. The service was very good. Best of all you now can get US Airways Dividend Miles when flying on United!

I fly both US Airways and United pretty regularly and would say that United is equal to if not better than US Airways. In general, the planes are cleaner and the service a little better. But on the East Coast, the schedule is not as robust so if there are flight problems, you have fewer options.

Regardless of which you choose, given the state of both of these carriers, I would not buy a ticket until about 3 mos. out. There is no sense in having the airline hold your money for any longer than necessary.

Hey mmouse37-

Lucky you. Is that non-stop? I am going on the DCL on May 18th and so far have the best rate from Jet Blue at $79 each way non stop. I saw the delta flight you are talking about but it was more expensive.

We flew USAir last year from Harrisburg and it was ok (booked through Disney air). This year we booked our own flights through Harrisburg and chose United. The prices were WAY lower than USAir. USAir wanted no less than 400+ per person!!! Hopefully we'll get good service with United.

mkauffman,

I'm assuming y'all live near Harrisburg, PA...My dad lives in, and I went to high school, in York, PA. Not that it's really that big of deal, and I'm sure they're a few others on this board from the same region....

Anyway, we'll be on the same cruise in November.

Alex

Hey Alex...I PM'd you. Nice to hear from you!
