Airline prices...

Why are they so darn expensive? Do you think they will be going down anytime soon? We are going on a cruise this coming August. Im looking for airfare from Norfolk, VA to Ft Lauderdale, The airfare is around 244$, that is high to me. Last June we flew from Norfolk, to Ft Lauderdale for 105$ rt(that included tax). Now granted I got that special deal because I acted right away when Orbitz sent me a fare update. But still, the prices are going up, not down.
I have gone to every travel site there is as well as the individual airline websites. Anybody have any ideas when it will go down, or if it will go down?

They all seem high right now... I'm sure due to the fuel shortages the past several months. I've been trying to book a flight to Paris CDG for July and haven't seen anything drop below $1100. I sure hope they come down soon.

At the airline sites try searching with the flexible or search by price instead of using specific dates.
Most of the time you can get the dates you want for less$$$

But yes prices are up and as long as fuel price keep going up I don't think fares will come down any time soon.

Ugh!! Don't even get me started on this!! :sad2:

I hate the high price of airfare. That is the only thing stopping our family from going back to CA this summer. Especially out of Traverse City. It's impossible to get any good deals. Have to drive to Grand Rapids or Detroit and leave outta there.

I really hope the prices come down before I fly out to Albuquerque, NM for a wedding in June. I know, I know...don't hold my breath. But you know what? I'll just sit here :surfweb: and wait for something to happen.

two years ago, the cheapest we could get was $900. i kept waiting and waiting for months for the fares to go down and they never did. you might be stuck with the $1100 fare.

i can't really complain - most airlines charge prices that don't even keep them in the black - if they did, no one would fly. not to mention the price of oil these days.

I know what you mean about having to drive to a different airport to get a little better rate. I am just outside of Kalamazoo (where we have an airport ~ that fares are about 2-3 times more than anywhere else). I am going on a cruise next month, and was able to find a good deal on Southwest but have to drive to Chicago. Oh well....it is better than an 18-20 hour car ride!!!

Good luck for those needing airfares! Those that are fortunate enough to have an airport that flys Southwest ~ you should be able to get decent rates from them right now! It might be worth a try!!!!

it's cheaper to fly to london from here than it is to fly to memphis, so there has to be to it than just fuel prices, though that has to enter in to it.
