I just read an article yesterday about how many major carriers are raising prices, then this morning my Travelocity Fare Watcher emailed me and 4 out of my 5 Fare Watcher's went up! What a bummer

Can airlines raise the ticket price after the fact (you've paid for it) for a fuel surcharge?

They've done that in the past - I remember having to pay a fuel surcharge (after the fact at the airport) several years ago. Believe it was during the "crisis" in the 70's.

FWIW, I don't think they will do it now.

Best wishes -

they are going up and fast! I spoke to my TA a week ago Thurs and she put a package with airfare on hold for me. Turns out Disney airfare was much better than what we usually see from Iowa. After asking her about other dates to get a cheaper room rate, we went with the first package because the airfare quotes had jumped up $400-600 for my family of 4. saving that $100 on room rates didn't make sense anymore.

I wanted to wait for a cheaper flight from Southwest but with the
announcement of rising airfare hubby and I decided this morning to book
airfare through Delta. The flights are through a partner airline Chatauqua. We are paying 183.50 from New Orleans to Orlando. We leave May 28 and return June 5. Hope this helps.

I was so lucky. I just purchased our air for our trip in November yesterday. Fo hahas I checked again today and the price went up $20/ticket. I had no idea.

My boyfriend just flew to Jacksonville today to spend a week with his family.. I bought the ticket and paid $280 roundtrip.. one week after I purchased it the price had gone to $390!! most recently I looked and the price was up to $548!! I was glad I bought it when I did.. :sunny:

Also - most airlines have higher fares if you purchase your tickets on the weekends than they do during the week. American normally has sales available on Tuesdays.

My mom is a travel agent and she said that if NW strikes the flights will go way up, but when it ends, the prices will go down again and NW will have some good deals. I still haven't gotten my tickets for December yet, so I am hoping that in the next couple of months things settle down.

Hmmm. I purchased my United tickets about 3 weeks ago. Seeing this thread gave me the curiosity to check. The price of the ticket actually went down $24. That's $48 between my wife and myself. Oh well, no use crying over spilled milk. The only thing that counts is "We're going to Disney World!!" :earsboy:

Just checked our December flight on NWA to El Paso---I found a deal when I bought them....I thought they were less than $300...at worst it was the low $300s. It is now $410.

I have reservations for 11/26 to 12/2. Since 11/26 is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, I was having a hard time finding a good price for air, PIT/MCO. Air Tran was $281, USAir was over $400! I only paid $201 in May, last December it was only $135! My mom has health problems and I really didn't want to book this far ahead but I was getting nervous. Air Tran dropped to $251 on Thursday, I bought them. I also found a travel insurance company that will insure the tickets for $31 total, waiving the pre-existing condition clause because I bought the insurance within 5 days of ticket purchase (travelinsured.com).

Interesting theory on the NWA flights. We are either driving a rental or flying in Feb. Since right now, Sun Country is at $1670 for our family of 5, the driving plan is on, but I will definitely be checking once this strike issue is settled. DH and I figure if we can fly for $1000 then we wouldn't drive. Still have to rent a car there though, so that airfare is a big expense.

Just for grins I went into american airlines site and checked on prices for our upcoming flight.. last month thru my TA I bought 2 airlines tickets and paid for ASMo for 3 nights and it cost me a total of $705.. I just checked the exact flights we are taking and price is up to $545.90 per ticket!! wow.. :bounce:

We recently got a new smaller airline out of our small airport (Allegiant Air). They are offering one-way tickets from Spfld, MO to Orlando Sanford for $59. After taxes, it was $408 for the 3 of us. I KNOW I couldn't drive for that!! :cool1:

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one going nuts checking flights!! We are goign Nove 16-20 and I have been checking flight for a while now. I am flying out of Newar NJ and found out that as of October JetBlue will be flying out and will have direct flights to Orlando. I of course missed there special for $59 each way and Continental had the same offer so that they could "compete" and of course I missed that too. :confused3

Anyway I have been checking and I was all set to book JetBlue on Thursday for $210 and I decided to wait. I checked Friday and Jetblue was up to $215 and Continental was over $300. Now I was getting nervous should I wait or should I book!!! I decided to wait and it paid off. I check Jetblue this morning and it was $225.....then I checked COntinental and it was $195 with tax. I booked it right away.. I don't want to risk getting losing that with gas prices going so high.

I hope I did the right thing!!

About a month ago at the suggestion of a DISer I checked Delta's website for our tickets. We got them for $128 R/T per person from MHT to MCO for 2/25 to 3/4. My friend and her 2 kids are supposed to come with us and I have been checking Delta's website and for the same flights the price yesterday was $426.80 R/T per person. :earseek: I know she was mad at me at the time for booking those tickets but I had to book 6 tickets and I knew the prices would probably be going up because of the fuel situation and I had the money so I absolutely could not pass that price up and thank goodness I didn't!

Anybody think there is any chance at all these prices will go down? I would like to get them on the same flights but the cheapest I have seen on any airline on Travelocity is around $270 R/T. The best we have gotten on SW is $215 R/T from here so that may be the best she can do.

You never know where the prices will go. However, I've been hearing that oil will reach 100.00 a barrel this Fall or Winter! I don't know what kind of reserves the airlines have but if oil does reach that price ,I don't see how the prices cannot rise.

Think NO reserves. That is why United and USAir are in bankruptcy, DL and NW are right behind them and AA is wandering around losing cash.

At those prices even SW will lose since I think a lot of their hedges have been expiring.
