Airline miles card

Does anyone have a recommendation for an airline miles card? Does the Capital One work as well as they say? I'm asking because my nephew is planning a few overseas trips and I though maybe switching to an airline miles card may make things a bit cheaper for him.

I have the Capital One card. I've never used the rewards to actually purchase airline tickets, I just use them to "redeem" against travel purchases. It's pretty easy, but not much different than any cards that give you cash back.

I also have the Delta card. That gives me a free checked bag for everyone in my party and Zone 2 boarding. Any miles I earn never expire. I have used it for free trips before.

I guess it depends on your airline of choice or whats available in your area. I use the chase southwest card and the 50k bonus points when i signed up went a long way. For me our flights typically cost 10k-12k roundtrip.

Maybe the Chase Sapphire Reserve card they offer 100,000 points.

Airline miles are most valuable on the airline you can fly. Credit card "miles" are worth a fixed amount. You're generally better off with a cash-back card than a credit card miles card.

Although I use the Southwest card, this would not help the OP with overseas flights.

Agreed the airline miles are most valuable if you are using them to book international first class tickets. Booking domestic coach tickets it is hard to get a 1.5% return.

I got this card a few months ago. LOVE this card. You get awarded triple points on travel and points are 1.5% when you spend them for for travel. There are also a number of travel partners (airlines/hotel partners) that you can transfer points to at 1:1.

I got the venture capital last year for the sign on bonus and it was really easy to use. Once you spend enough to get the bonus, the bonus miles show in your rewards. You book your flight with the card and once the transaction posts to the card, go onto capital one's website and you request the miles. They will credit the account with the dollar value of your miles. I received a 40,000 mile bonus and this was worth $400 off the price of my airfare.
