Maybe I'm a bit weird:crazy: , but I quite like airline food. Flying always makes me hungry, so basically I will try most things. When we fly to Orlando next month (with Virgin), I'm expecting a meal and a snack, but do they sell sandwiches and anything else in case I get peckish, or should I pack some snacks in my hand luggage?

I don't think they sell snacks.

We got lunch (hot) and afternoon tea (sandwich) with plenty of drinks in between. There was plenty of food, but we did do a bit of bartering between the 10 of us so we all got something we liked. I thought some of the food was a bit weird (chocolate cake with walnuts in? I don't like chocolate cake:confused: and the kids don't like nuts) but none of us went hungry.

Other people will tell you differently though.

There are many airlines today that cater out with different restaurants, so the airplane food is not as bad as they were back then-or for the most part.
I have never heard of any airlines selling food in the airplane, so I would bring things in your carry on, or buy them at the airport restaurants-remember that they are pricey.

We (me and Grumpy John) have pre-booked low-fat meals on our last 2 flights with Virgin.

Unfortunately, Virgin dont seem to very imaginative with low-fat meals. In October onthe outward bound we had rice, salmon and brocolli with a tsp of tomato sauce (not the ketchup sort). On the return flight we had rice, salmon and brocolli with tsp fo tomato sauce. each tray having dried fruit

Last week they did get a bit adventurous and we had rice, salmon and new potatoes, no sauce - on the return flight guess what we had rice, salmon and brocolli no sauce each tray having dried fruit and grapes

Don't get me wrong there was nothing wrong with the food just the imagination was lacking. Technically it wasnt particularly low fat just the correct fat ie salmon. Chicken has less fat.

One of the choices going out was sausages and mash or Thai curry and returning was chicken or salmon.

I know it must be a difficult job to provide a reasonable selection of meals for 400 people but who knows we might get something different to salmon in October!

But Virgin do not sell any food on board it is mostly charter flights that do this. If you are not too fussy about your food you will rarely go hungry on a Virgin flight.
