Just a heads-up. Was told at work yesterday they will start checking tomorrow (Saturday) for stateroom keys once you exit the building to go out to the check-in area. Must have transfers to check in. They do have a counter for transfer purchases. Like I said, just wanted to give a heads-up, because I know a lot of people use this service.

Thanks PorterBob - This is indeed some useful information. - Mike

DARN!! I was hoping to use the check in on our return on April 17th. Oh well!!! A lugging we will go.....:D

PorterBob-
So in other words, are you saying that if you use a town car service, for example, you cannot do airline check in at the port after disembarking?

You can travel back however you wish, but a transfer must be purchased. I will check again, but I believe it was like $25 for 6 bags or so. This is something new for me, so let me see what happens tomorrow and I can post back. Like I said earlier, this is supposed to go in affect tomorrow.

yes please let us know!!!

Alright, as soon as you cross to the check-in side they will be checking to make sure you have the transfer in your package.

PorterBob: Please help!!

"Transfer" is basically the transportation between the terminal and airport or resort. Some folks prefer to set up their own transfers back via taxi's, limo's, or rental car. Up until now, anybody could check in luggage at the check-in area without being asked for proof of their transfer package. Hope I explained that well.

I must be missing something here - I thought the airlines took our bags back to MCO, does Disney. If DCL starts charging us for this service, I certainly hope they do not charge the airlines for the privilege of checking us in too - but maybe the airlines charge DCL???

You are checking in with airline reps, but this is a service Disney offers to the guests who use their transportation back. Not sure how else to explain it, hope I cleared up any confusion.

Thanks PorterBob for the information.

That's too bad that we have to pay to use the service. Oh well I guess we will just stand in line at the airport to check in...hopefully curb side is working

I think what PorterBob is saying that DCL will now only let you check in bags at the port if you have purchased DCL transfers from the port to the airport or if you bought airfare from DCL where the transers would have been included in the air price. The transfers are $25 one way from port to airport if you buy them separately from the air package (same as they always have been).

Actually, this was the way it used to be...you could only check in bags if you had purchased DCL transfers....looks like they let that rule slide for a long time but now are reinforcing it again.

Thanks PorterBob for clearing that up. Please keep us posted if there are any changes.

MJ - our first cruise was in 10/00 and we did not purchase ttransfers and no one asked us to purchase anything. I was under the impression, wrong that it was, that this service was available to all guests, not just those that purchased the transfers.

I stand corrected!

So, any suggestions on what to do with our bags? We were planning to go to downtown disney on saturday before our saturday evening flight home!

absame....one option is if you have a rental car to just keep it in the trunk until you get to the airport. Otherwise if you take the DCL bus, maybe you could take the bus to airport, check in your bags and then take a Mears shuttle to the WDW, or rent a car at the airport for the day.

glindamood....I know we have tried in the past (not sure what year) to check in our bags and were definately stopped and asked to show our DCL transfer coupon....which we did not have....we were not allowed to check in our bags at the port.

We have been cruising with DCL since day one of its operation back in '98 but not sure when DCL adopted the transfer rule for checking in bags.

we're using a car service, so it gets a bit more complicated. Anyone know how early you can check in for a flight at the airport. Could you take a car to the airport at 8:00 a.m. and check in bags for a late afternoon flight??
