Ok I'm only allowed 1 bag carry-on size for the 6 days I'm in Scotland.

I'm flying Northwest and according to their website, I can only have a 22in carry on.

I have a two piece set that connects together making it 25in. I have only flown Delta with this set, but their regulations are also 22in and nobody has said anything to me about being over.

I also have a set that is 26in and will hold all that I need for this trip and if it gets tossed around or messed up, I won't care as much as I would about the other set.

25 inch set was well over 200.00
26 inch set was around 50.00

My question is. Do yall think I could get away with taking the 26 inch?

It's the same depth and width as the 25 inch. Just an inch taller.

Is this just your carry on bag or your luggage? If it's luggage, why don't you just check it, and buy a smaller bag for essentials to bring on the plane?

I can't. We have to go carry on only. It's part of the requirements. We are going to be moving about and don't have time to wait for the luggage.

Are you on The Amazing Race? :teeth:

I don't know, when I flew United last year, they were making people put their carry on luggage in a box to make sure it wasn't too big.

No worse! A travel agent fam. We will be viewing different hotels and places of interest. They are very fast pace. Last year when I went to Fiji we did 28 hotels in 10 days. Jamaica was 9 resorts in 3 days. But both of those we were allowed to check luggage. This time I can't.

I wouldn't take the chance of having an oversize suitcase for carry on. The airlines are doing better at stopping overweight or oversized luggage on flights. I doubt the larger size would even fit in the overhead.

If it doesn't look like it's going to fit where it should, they'll make you gate-check it. I think the international restrictions are getting tighter and tighter.

I don't mind gate-check since I can pick it up right as the gate as I'm leaving the plane.

I have cut back all that I can. Mixing and matching clothes so that I can wear some of them more than once. (not happy about that at all.) But so I can make this trip, I'm willing to do it. I'm not taking my hair dryer, or any other hair styling things. I am taking just the basics. I do have to take a semi-formal outfit for our last night there. I have cut that down to as simple as possible.

But as much as I tried, I can't get everything I need in a 22 inch bag.

Can you carry on two pieces still when traveling int'l?? Carry the smaller bag and then maybe a regular size bag and just put your wallet handy at the top. Instead of my purse being part of my bags I pack it in one of the bags, if that makes sense. Have a great trip.

You could carry two bags last year, but I don't know if anything has changed or not.

I was planning on this being the only bag and not even have a purse with me. Using one of the small zip pouches to put my flight information and passport stuff in it.

Thanks! I'm going to try.

NW won't let you bring on a 25 or 26" bag. No way will it fit into their overheads anyway. Sometimes, an overstuffed 22" bag won't even fit into the overhead.

Go with two bags.

Thanks! I have only flown NWA one other time years ago and have done all I could to avoid them ever since. I'm flying them now, but not by my choice.

That was what I was afraid that I would run into. I guess I'll try to figure out how to take the two bags that will break down.

Thanks again for the help.

Can you take one suitcase that's a carry-on size (22") plus a smaller carry-on, like a back pack or a tote bag?

On NWA you are allowed to take one carryon of the 22 inch size and you are also allowed one "personal" item such as a purse, laptap etc.

I always travel with my 22 inch carry on(which goes in the overhead compartment) and a medium sized backpack or duffel bag. As long as the backpack or duffel bag will fit under the seat in front of you, you will be okay.

If you carry a purse, just take a small one and put it inside of the backpack. You'd be amazed at what you can actually fit in a backpack.

For easy transport, I just hook the backpack over the pull handle of the rolling carryon and sit it on top of the suitcase. Or you could bring a bungee cord of some sort to tie it on to the top of your rolling bag while you are moving about and remove it to board the plane.

I don't know about that. I don't ever carryon large luggage, but I've heard flight attendents recently say that the gate checked luggage would be sent to baggage claim. I don't think they want to encourage people to try to get around the checked baggage rules by trying to carry it on.

I fly almost weekly and I think the carryon luggage is getting ridiculous. They really need to start limiting the large pieces. People jockey for position as the flight boards so that they can get on first to get their large luggage into the overheads.

I would be very surprised if you got away with bringing a 26" suitcase onboard. It won't fit in the overhead compartment. Have you tried using ziplocks for some of your clothes and pressing the air out of them? I can fit an awful lot into a 22" suitcase by doing that.

Just to echo what others have said - on internatinal flights they are serious about enforcing carry-on size rules. Can you mail a box of stuff to your first hotel?

Don't you have to go through customs anyways? Granted I've only gone abroad once but the line just to get through customs was 200 people long that getting your luggage off the carousel was only an added 5 minutes. Can you honestly say you are SO pressed for time you can't even wait 5 minutes?

Luggage carryons are a HUGE pet peeve of mine. When I see people with TWO suitcases each it reallllly ticks me off.

Carry on is a pet peeve of mine also. I fly several times during the year and I'm usually the one preaching about smaller carry-ons. Or shaking my head at the person with 3 bags to carry on. Which is one of the reason I am so worried about this carry on. But I think I have figured out what I'm going to do and the company I'm going with will just have to deal.

I have tried to roll things in my space savior bags and it still doesn't work.

I'm going to check my 26 inch bag and take a small rolling backpack and a small day bag that will fit under the seat as carry ons. I'll take a bundgee cord and attach the rolling backpack to the 26 inch bag and make them work as one bag once I get over there.

The worse they can do is send me home.
