Hi Everyone,

We are planning a trip to DL in July 2013 (during school holidays) so I have been monitoring airfares from Sydney for this July and all the fares have been $2,000 plus return. For anyone who is travelling to LA this July, were you able to get fares for cheaper than this and if so, with which airline?

TIA for your help! :goodvibes

2010 we flew Air pacific booked the fares in Dec paid $1150 Syd- LA July 25 - Aug 20
2011 Qantas Perth- Dallas July29-Sept 6 flew home $1500 booked in Jan when they announced new route
2012 Qantas Perth - Dallas July 16 - Sept 6 fly home initially we paid $1729.10 in Oct again when they announced the new route was going daily fom July
We then changed our flights to be July 16 - Sept 16 Perth- Dallas, LA- Perth $1774.35 changed in March during sale.

DS16 flight was initially booked for Aug 1 changed his to fly in and out of LA and in on July 18 his ended up being our most expensive flight at $2150

Generally speaking you can add $500 for the extra flights from Perth.

Also I just helped friends book their flights 2 weeks ago Air Pacific Syd-LA July 9- July 30 $1650

We have just booked for 6 people from Adelaide to LA in Oct/Nov 2012 for about $6,500.

Check out expedia.ie as they have special deals going from time to time. This is the European expedia and I was wary because we got Qantas flights both to Melbourne and to LA and back. The LA flights are actually airbus tickets too! But I've checked our Qantas FF and the flights are there so it is safe. Only issue is you have to pay in Euro so there is an international transaction fee BUT it was way cheaper than paying through Qantas who were quoting me nearly $12,000 for the same tickets at the time I booked! Go figure!

I also got flights off expedia.ie and they are legit......we paid $870 (conversion $ )syd-lax..but that was in feb 2013, off peak...you may not be too lucky for july as that is peak season..but never hurts to check. Good luck ..

Awesome work re adl-lax tickets...think of what you can do with the savings of 6K:scratchin

I found out why the tickets are cheap, qantas cant sell discounted fares in australia, but can from overseas sites thru third parties..thats why the americans can get great deals and we cant..

and the euro is at the best its ever been for us, so added bonus

The airlines tend to have a sale on the fare between 6-8 months out from your travel dates.

That said, if I see any fare $1200 or under I generally buy it if it fits our dates and then stop looking at the prices! :upsidedow

I'm all for expedia.ie. we got our fares 5pax Mel NYC MCO Mel for $6100 after the transaction and conversions.
