Is there any benefits to booking airfare with my Disney package (on disney site) as apposed to getting my airfare elsewhere and just getting Disney Package on disney? Apart from convenience.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the only benefit is that vacation insurance purchased through Disney would now also cover the airfare. Again, not 100% that this is accurate.

Personally, I'd book the airfare separately and buy trip insurance elsewhere that can cover it all.

I did it the first couple of years, and I didn't realize they stick you on a flight that has layovers, etc. One year, we flew out to Cinncinati from BWI and then down to MCO.

Personally, I like having control over my flight and going non-stop when I can, so I don't book it through Disney anymore.

No advantage to allowing Disney to book your airfare, in fact it's a disadvantage. Like the pp mentioned, they just get whatever and don't take into consideration which airline you prefer, what time, or the routing (non-stop, etc). There was a post on here a couple of days ago where the poster had to change dates and found a cheaper airfare and had to fight with Disney to get them to refund the difference.

Disney trip insurance covers your entire trip no matter who makes the airline ressies or which airline you use. Makes no difference at all.

TAs don't like to sell it. First of all, there's no commission on it. Second, everything that was mentioned above. You will SOMETIMES do better with Disney (especially with shorter notice flights) but overall, you're better off going out on your own with this one.

just booked AP room with DDP and airfare last week and after checking it against separate flight, it worked out less money and got to take the same flight I normally take on previous trips. In the past I would have gone the way of booking air on my own.

Not really. It's possible that the Disney airfare could be less expensive, but this is not true in most cases.

In general, it's best to book directly with the airline, because it gives you more flexibility should you have to cancel or change anything.

In addition to everything above, you also have to pay for the airfare portion when you book it along with your deposit. It has to be paid for up front, just like any other time you book air fare. You can't pay for it 45 days out. This is a problem for a lot of people who want to do the air portion down the line.

Occasionally you will see flights cheaper on Disney's website than on the airlines website or sites like Expedia, for the same flight. Usually though, Disney's website is the same price or more expensive for the same flights.

Like other pp mentioned as well, if your price goes down for a flight, you can call the airlines and get a credit, whereas with Disney, you can't.

I book my own flights.
