Airfare - Why So Expensive in Early May?

Hi

I am trying to book airfare from JFK to Orlando 5/5 and returning on 5/13, the prices are outrageous. Usually we fly Jet Blue, love the in seat TV and preboarding for those of us with kids, but they want over $900 for 3 of us. American and Delta were about $750. What is going on, and why so expensive this time of year, Easter and Passover will be long gone, schools are still in session. The most I have ever paid on previous trips has been $150-200 per person.

I don't know whether to book now and pay through the nose or wait and see what happens. Someone tell me what to do.......please

Those fares do seem high. I'm showing the following fares, for those dates, for JFK to Orlando.

JetBlue $207 round-trip
Delta $219 round-trip
Continental $218 round-trip

I think you just need to be flexible about what time you leave and what time you return, and you'll be fine.

Southwest fares are a lot higher on May 5 than they are the days either side. Can you go a day earlier or later. It might make a difference.
