We used vouchers we had from American (were voluntarily bumped last year) and we had to purchase tickets by July 13th. We shopped flights for months and ended up buying tickets IAH-MCO for $255 (the vouchers keep us from paying tax). Way high fare, but we had to use these vouchers or forfeit $100 each (we had 4).
A week later (argh!) the flight dropped. Dh spent 30 minutes on the phone yesterday and they are mailing us the difference ($37/person) and new replacement tickets. It's not a huge savings, but $37x4 takes us to a full fare ticket at some other point (back to Disney?) and we have another year to use the credits.
So if you buy your tickets and can find the same flights (key point) at a cheaper price, you might be able to get a credit voucher. It's worth a call to explore. These were non-refundable tickets too.
Woo Hoo!
