Airfare rates around Thanksgiving

We would like to travel to the World on Thanksgiving or the day after. What are the chances that we will be able to get airfare at a pretty reasonable rate? Last year when we went to WDW, we flew Southwest and paid just $54 each way. I'm spoiled now and am worried that I'll be paying a lot more since it is a holiday.

Perhaps you may get lucky and get a good rate but you should be prepared to pay more than you did last year considering it is a holiday. $54 each way really is a steal to most destinations and probably will be difficult to find a year later during a peak holiday travel time.

you may find a reasonable rate for the afternoon of Thanksgiving Day -because most want to be where they are going for a meal on that day but whether you can find anything reasonable for coming back is another question (and one I wouldn't hold my breath on!)
You probably won't find this rate until very close to the holiday also. any times I've found a good rate for a holiday period it is usually for last minute traveling. the last time we booked for Thanksgiving day it was the week leading into the holiday, like maybe that Monday?

I've been waiting since Dec for Thanksgiving airfares to post. So far none of the discount airlines have them posted. We're leaving the Tues before Thanksgiving and returning the Sunday after. If I can get jetBlue for $250 RT I'll be happy. I think JB publishes their Nov rates sometime in May. Airtran may post them a bit sooner.

A couple of years ago we went to the world around thanksgiving time and got great airfare... From atlantic city it was 149.00 round trip for dh and i...not 149 each.. But for both...keep looking youll find cheap airfare...

I just check going on thanksgiving day..;. It is 59.00 the day before is higher just check your dates maybe atlantic city would be good for you since.. You are in pa

Thanks, Suzyq9241. You give me hope. I'm going to be checking daily until I hopefully find a good price. We are looking to either fly out of Harrisburg, Baltimore or Philly, but would do Atlantic City if the price was right.

I'm worried about this also! There are four of us flying from California! We are flying to Orlando on the Thursday BEFORE Thanksgiving and returning home either the Friday or Sat. of Thanksgiving weekend (depending on prices). And If Thanksgiving day is drastically cheaper - I guess I will have to consider that as well. :confused3

I did a quick check on kayak.com for my flight to Orlando that will be right after Thanksgiving. Traveling on the Monday after, it was $90 to $100 higher than traveling on the Tuesday after.

I want to add that generally, when we have flown on the day of the holiday (Christmas day and Thanksgiving day), the airports were less busy and the airfare was lower than the 2 -3 days leading up to the holiday and the 2-3 after. Hope that helps.

I go the Saturday following Thanksgiving from BWI.

Last year, I got $89.00 going down and $59.00 coming back the following Saturday. So a $30.00 increase to travel Thanksgiving weekend was very reasonable to me.

I think if you can fly anywhere under $100.00, it is very reasonable.

I think if you can fly anywhere under $100.00, it is very reasonable.

Amen! I would sign up for that right now. I think i'd settle for under $300 RT from my preferred airport (HPN/White Plains NY).
