can you sometimes get a better rate if call directly to the airline? I want to fly american and their website is saying 298 and travelocity is saying three different prices as to how i put in the passengers

Just in the past couple weeks many airlines like northwest, american, united, and continental have instuted an extra $5-10 charge to talk to a reservation agent. They want you to book through their websites, so you get charged extra for calling. To be sure, call and get a price check as compared to their website. As for cheaper prices, go to bookingbuddy.com. There you can price your dates from any number of booking sources and maybe one will be considerably cheaper than the others. Good Luck!

I always book online.....I first check prices at Expedia or Orbitz and I then when I find a fare that looks good I go to that airline's own website and book. This way I save the $5.00-$10.00 booking fee charged by Expedia & Orbitz.

The fares I found on airline websites were about $200 a person cheaper than Disney.
The fares my travel agent found were another $100 cheaper, so even after paying her ticket fee of $25 per ticket ($100) were were still $300 cheaper than online.

tvguy-what airline did you book with. also im not going until june o5 out of st. louis

If you are going out of STL, I'd wait til Southwest's fares became available! I've heard of many people getting $39, 59, and 69 one way fares! And most times, you can always find a price $99 or less one way, so at most, your looking at $200 per round trip ticket.

I got in on Southwest's sale!

I just cancelled my December Southwest tickets to MCO and rebooked, saving $100, a credit I'll apply to my November flight to Ft Lauderdale...:bounce:

Flew American.
Don't know what airline DCL would have put us on.

I had to book several trips on short notice this year and was amazed how expensive Southwest is. I just assumed they would be the lowest. While the lowest fare listed for Sacramento to Houston was $298 roundtrip, those were all sold out. I ended up paying $620 per person roundtrip. The remainder of the trips were on America West at $390 per person, even with less than a week's notice. And of course there are no assigned seats on Southwest, so if I can fly for less and get assigned seats with my family, America West is a better deal.
