Airfare Prices?

If you buy a ticket for April now, is there any way the airline can increase the price of the ticket later? Since gas prices seem to be skyrocketing, would it be a good idea to secure the tickets and prices now? I am a bit naive when it comes to airfare and the ins and outs of this area.

What would they do? Charge your credit card at a later time?

In the past we have been assessed the fee when we checked in at the airport. Don't know how they would handle on-line check-ins, maybe ask for a credit card on-line before you print your boarding pass???? Perhaps someone else can add experience here...

After you lock in at a rate, how much more can they possibly and realistically ask for? I mean are we talking a few dollars a person or upwards of $50-100 a person?
