Airfare Help from BOS - April Vacation Week

Song's fares are ridiculous. We are flying over Thanksgiving and it would cost twice as much as Southwest to fly Song. I'll drive to Manchester for that price -- it is a nonstop from Manchester too on Southwest.

So far, I seem to fit their target audience (female, make all travel decisions, family flies a lot), but their pricing structure surely doesn't fit what I'm willing to pay!

No wonder Southwest is making money. I think that all of these "low cost" airlines are just putting on different paint colors and doing things the same way as they have always done them. I say, if you are going to buy an airline stock, buy Southwest!

We are looking for the week after school vacation here in MA and Songs' fares are still ridiculous....$280 for the flight down and $100 for the return flight. I have emailed Song several times (probably already in their database as a "PITA") about their so called discount airline with an emphasis on customer service. First they eliminate the only early am direct flight out of Logan to MCO and then they have prices for off-peak flight dates that are the highest I have ever seen. We were really hoping to be regular Song customers but so far that is not even a close option. We live on the Cape so SW out of PVD is our other option but Logan is much faster for us to get to. Maybe JetBlue will come into Boston and do what Song promised.

As a New Englander who loves to travel to DW - Southwest is THE airline of choice!!

It is a pain to keep an eye on their dates, as they only release the dates 3-6 months in advance, but it is definitely WELL worthwhile as their schedules and prices far outstrip any other airline!

We live in Northern NH, so it is a drive for us to any airport - it's 2 1/2 hours to Manchester - a little over 3 to Logan - 2 1/2 to Burlington, etc. Manchester is awesome - and much cheaper to park at than Logan! As long as you check in about 1 1/2 to 2 hours before your flight - I've never had trouble getting at least a B and usually an A boarding pass! The Orlando Flights always originate here - so an A or a B pass ensures a good choice of seats! I took a late flight back from MCO a couple of weeks ago, that had a quick stop at BWI - I felt bad for those people hopping on! The first leg of the flight wasn't full, but once we stopped - OUCH! Let's talk overbooked! The flight attendants are so funny - you don't mind being on a full plane - you get entertainment along with your soda and peanuts!!

Southwest also doesn't charge change fees - we fly as a family of five - had to change our flights by a day last December, and if we were flying any of the Logan flights - it would have been at least $250 to change, not including any price increases! Southwest - no problem - go right ahead and change!! They also will credit you for any change in price before you travel! If you bought cheap seats, and the cheap seat price goes down - you get a voucher! Even paying full price, it is less than $400 rt for a non-stop! They run 3 - 4 non stops to/from MCO every day!

Yep - I am a loyal SW Rapid Rewards customer!

So - keep your eyes posted - last year saw April flights released in early Dec. I think!

How about January flights ,do they come out in September????

Thanks to all of you who replied to my post! I've been checking the airfares from BOS-MCO several times a day for over a week... Finally, I found a great flight for a great price! I'm flying nonstop on American Airlines for $277 a ticket for school vacation week... YEAH!!! I'm so excited! The fare for the same flights was over $100 more just this morning... and I went back to book it and it had dropped to only $277.

American currently has non stop flights from Bos to MCO for 419, including taxes, roundtrip. There are now 2 non stops daily. I priced the seats for April 17 returning on the 25th.

Be careful with AA. I had a non-stop booked for September, with all the cutbacks I now have a 5 hour one stop flight into Orlando, but what they threw in was a wonderfull hour stop in beautiful Miami.

I am going back to WDW next May and found "direct flights" to Orlando for $167.00 RT from AA. I wouldn't book them because I know they will change them. I hate making plans around a flight and have them change it at their convience.

Good luck and be sure to keep checking on your flight the closer you get to your trip. Rich

I just checked wiht samsclub travel online, AA has the best fares but i have never had anything but horrible service with them. they have $237 for direct, its pretty tempting.

I agree about AA. My dad had a flight during a holiday and he paid 350.00 just so he could get a nonstop. 2 weeks before his flight they changed it to a connecting flight with a 2 hour layover and would do nothing to compensate him for the difference in ticket price. That just stinks!!

New Englanders, don't go to New York to get lower fares. Excellent chance you will be caught in a traffic jam.

>>> [changed me from non stop to connecting flight] stinks

If there are non stop flights at a different time of the day, they should be happy to switch you to them at no charge.

Alternatively you might ask for a refund writing to higher ups in the airline if necessary. Specifically say that when you booked, you had a choice of non stop or not non stop at different prices and that the reason you chose the higher price was to get the non stop service.

It would help even more if you print-screened the flight schedules showing the fares for the non-stop trip and the other trips, to include in your explanation.

I took a chance and bought our tickets for our spring trip when they added that second nonstop out of Boston. If it does change significantly I will request a refund. I could not resist the thought of arriving in Orlando at 9:56am!!! and only paying $200 for it! I am keeping my fingers crossed that it stays as is!

WHen did American add the 7:00 AM flight? That's awesome. Hope they keep it.

Jen,

We fly Comair on the Boston-Bangor leg all the time and it has been great. The jets to Bangor have 3 seats across (a row of 1 and a row of 2), which can be tricky depending on your family size and kids' ages. Also these small jets are pretty loud. But no problems at all.

Good luck!
