EARLY Dec...like 12/5.....
seems a bit pricy, to me....
200 RT from Philly...Per person.
I am checking all the airlines daily....:surfweb:

To me, leaving on a Saturday any more is the most expensive. I try to work my dates around a bit and fly on the days that will get me the best price. Sometimes it means flying earlier than I might like or later but it gets me to where I want to go and the price I've set for myself.
If your dates are set, then I would just watch for deals.

Air fares are still expensive. We're still getting $253 roundtrip out of Bradley in CT, which is more than we paid last year.

I want to know where all of these cheap air fares they're talking about on the news are, because we aren't seeing them.

I'm looking for flights out of Philly on 12/5 as well. Hoping Southwest and Airtran come down in pricing soon.

I think $200 roundtrip is pretty reasonable. I am paying $159.20 for non-stop flights on AirTran from Bloomington, IL to Orlando Dec. 3-15 (booked in early June). My friend is paying $107 + taxes each way on Southwest out of Nashville for the same dates.

I recall thinking that $99 each way from Chicago to FL was a great fare - and that was in 1982!

I've been looking too. Forgive me for this question, because I've only flown once, but are shorter flights not cheaper? We live in Alabama and would leave from Birmingham or Huntsville. We could actually drive 3 hours and fly from Nashville, Memphis or 4 hours and fly out of Atlanta. The days I have been checking are midweek leaving the evening of december 16th or early December 17th and flying back home the 23rd (which I know will be more).

My a/f was 140.00 pp for my trip THIS month. I booked it just a coule moths prior to leaving.
NOW..it is around 200.00 pp. I was using SW for my fare. Spirit was running cheaper, but I 't want to drive to AC. LOL.

i WILL KEEP LOOKING, It changes every day...

Shorter flights are not necessarily cheaper. It mostly depends on supply & demand. If there's alot of competition in an airport, prices will be lower. If there's only one airline with the route, it will be higher. From Pittsburgh, I can sometimes fly cheaper to the west coast than I can to Cincinnati or Minneapolis.

I booked mine three months ago; I got MCO to BWI returning on December 5th for $59.00.

I got the Saturday before (Thanksgiving weekend) for $102.00, but that was expected....

I am on Airtran.

Never noticed this b4, but airtran charges the airfare, then charges a SEAT FEE?
What is that? LOL

Yeah they do. This is the first time we are going to fly Airtran (usually fly AA) and when we originally booked with them for our 12/1-12/8 trip out of Chicago, it was $143.00 r/t, but since the planes were starting to get full, and we have 2 young kids, we decided to pay the extra to get seats next to each other. It ended up being $6 per trip ($12 r/t) so we had to pay a total of $48 for our seats for both flights. So now our $143.00 r/t turns into $191.00 r/t, this is still better than what we paid when we went in March.

That is crazy. LOL.
even with the sunshine code, it is more than SW and other airlines.
*sigh*.

Anyone ever fly with Spirit?
I never have, but their prices were competitive.
140 pp.

we have. it was like flying with southwest for the exception of no snacks and no free luggage. we flew from san antonio to orlando for $182.00 r/t; that was for 3 of us. we were in the $9 club. i was sad to see them discontinue service from SAT. i definetly recommend them.

its free within 24 hours though which is what i took advantage of yesterday morning. we are landing at MCO in 15 minutes. YAY

the code is applied at checkout and does not affect price. the seats for us were $6 each but i waited for 24 hour mark to get them for free.

I am comfused now...
You book your a/f but wait until you fly for seats?
I thought you had to pick the seats when you paid?

I still think SW is the way to go...FREE BAGS. That is like 50.00 in my pocket (per person)

Yes but when you fly southwest you have to checkin online in order to get a decent boarding position to then choose your seat on the plane versus knowing where you are going to sit prior with airtran. It is just peoples preferences in how they like to fly

Also if you book your airtran flights through kayak.com they will not charge you the seat fees when you select your seats and you can still use the $25 dollar voucher at www.airtran.com/sunshine so it is another option for you use to compare prices. Our roundtrip for first week of december on airtran with vouchers came to $145/pp. Happy hunting
