Airbus planes - are they safe ?

We are thinking of usinf JetBlue for our 2010 vacation to WDW.

If they were not safe, they would be grounded.

The same website lists several Boeings: Boeing: 717,727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777
DC9, MD80, DC10, MD11

The A320 actually has one of the lowest rates on the list.

Two recent accidents versus hundreds of thousands of successful flights. Seems pretty safe to me.

It probably has nothing to do with the plane itself. Probably more likely the company/airline's treatment/maintenance of the plane and/or training of the pilots/crew in the countries where these accidents happened.

And, as someone on the CB posted this morning, the two major aircraft manufacturers in the Western World are Airbus and Boeing, so if a plane does go down, chances are it will be one of those two.

IF you read any article about this plane crash, it seems like weather was a problem but the bigger problem seems to be the airlines lack of maintnance and laxadaisy attitude toward safety.

This is the first fatal accident in the airline's 50-year history. If only most U.S. carriers could have that record.

Two planes out of thousands. That's really not too bad. I don't think Hondas are unsafe because someone got in an accident with one. As mentioned before, the airline maintenance programs (or lack thereof), weather and pilot error are usually and most likely greater contributing factors than the design and manufacture of the aircraft.

Airbus has been undercutting Boeing for 20 years while losing money every year and being subsidized by the German/French/Spanish/British governments.

And I like supporting our last remaining aircraft manufacturer who we might really need if/when WWIII happens...
