Does anyone use airborne when they travel? How well does it work?

i tried it twice - it's like alka seltzer, you drop it in water and drink it down, supposed to guard you against germs - whatever - it tasted alright, except i felt a little bit, ahem, gassy afterwards.... :rolleyes1

I've used it for over 3 years now and have noticed I don't get sick when everyone around me does. During the flu season, I take it every day and also do that when I travel. Right now, I use it every other day, but will take it every day at WDW.

I prefer the lemon-lime flavor and take only one a day unless I feel "sniffly". I drop one into a bottle of water and add a Crystal Light flavor packet - orange, lemon or cherry pomegranate. I drink it leisurely. There are other flavors - orange, pink grapefruit and I just saw hot apple cider flavor at BJ's. I also get a flu shot once a year, but ever since I got sick w/ a nasty cold while at WDW, I've been trying things to boost my immune system. This seems to work well for me.

Good to know... I get sick EVERY time I fly!!!

Anyone take it days before?

I started taking Airborne about 2 weeks before my vacation--usually a couple times a day. I was trying to boost my immune system for the trip because I tend to get sick during vacations (especially when flying). It worked! For whatever reason--placebo or other--I don't really care as long as I'm not sick at Disney World! I've also tried it at first signs of sickness and it really does seem to lesson the symptoms and shorten the duration of the cold.:thumbsup2

The clinical evidence to support the claim that high doses of Vitamin C are effective at treating or preventing the common cold is minimal at best. There are many more studies that show no effect than those that show a very small one.

Airborne, in particular, is ridiculously expensive for what it is. You'd be better off buying a Vitamin C supplement pill from a store. Moreover, cold "remidies" that also include zinc can actually be harmful--they are known to do permanent damage to the sense of smell in some individuals.

I'd keep my money, and realize that any affect you notice is almost certainly that of a placebo.

Yeah, I'd just like to not get sick every time I travel...

So if I started taking it today, would that be too late for our trip? We leave Thursday morning.

I had a sore throat on Friday, which for me is a sure sign I'm getting sick. I took a bunch of airbornes this weekend and slept a lot, and today on Monday, I still haven't gotten sick and my sore throat is gone. I'm not sure what that means, but maybe there's some value to it. I know you've heard it a hundred times but good sleep, diet, exercise, and stress reduction is the best way to prevent getting sick. I think airborne may help it along too!

I TOTALLY swear by airborne. My husband and I took it the night before our flight (we did NOT want to be sick on our vacation!! ) and after we got off the plane. To help, we made sure we washed our hands with hand sanitizer (which is always strapped to my hand it seems) an breathed through our noses on the flight, and we both were fit as a fiddle

I use Airborne all the time at home and I'm bringing it to Disney. I only had 1 cold this year, while my DS, who refuses to take it because he doesn't like the taste, got 3 or 4. The one cold I had was mild. A couple of other times I had that feeling that I was coming down with something, took a few Airbornes and felt better in the morning.

I don't care if it's all in my head or not, but it works for me!

What do you mean by sick. Do your ears drain and your throat scratchy? Or do you mean sick sick.

I know that sounds crazy. I travel a bit for work and live in Houston. We have the worst air quality here and everytime I travel my ears drain and throat gets scratchy from the drainage because I'm always a littel stopped up here and get used to it The depressurization of flying pushes the gunk out. Gross to even talk about. I'm not a doc just my experience.

Long story short I've used Airborne and found Zicam to work better for me.

Being sick on vacation is no fun.

I do not get sick, knock on wood, when I travel but, I use them when I feel a cold coming on. The store brands are way cheaper.

I can't take anything with zinc - makes me sicker than I was before - so I haven't tried Airborne.

But I did used to be a flight attendant, and I can only remember being sick once or twice in the two years I flew nearly every day!

The secrets:

~ TONS of water, before, during and after the flight. Will help flush out all of the crap.

~ Wash your hands a few times, and use hand sanitizer when you can't get to the bathroom. I really don't believe it's the recirculated air in planes that makes people sick. It's the fact that everything is dirty and covered in millions of germs, and passengers touch things and then touch their faces, mouths, noses and eyes. Surest way to get sick!

~ For the love of Mickey Mouse, do NOT use the airline's pillows and blankets, unless you're on JetBlue or similar, where you can purchase/use a blanket that's wrapped in plastic and never been touched by human hands. The blankets you see in the overhead bins or draped over the seats probably haven't been washed in at least a month. And you don't even want to know the things I've seen people do with them. Trust me. :crazy2:

I agree with incessant hand-washing, especially while on vacation! When I think of how many times I am holding on to railings and such and how many germs that can carry......let's just say I wash my hands a lot and even more when I am on vacation. I also carry the products that don't require water for occasions when water is not handy. But I still love my Airborne.
