Air travel refund

I'm not what you would call a savvy traveler. So I thought I'd ask my question here and not sound too dumb.

I just found out that Southwest is selling my flight for cheaper than I bought if for. Is it possible to get a refund for the difference? I know that it may be in the form of a voucher or credit and that's fine. But it amounts to about $40 dollars cheaper per person.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you can call and they will give you a credit voucher towards your next flight with SW.We ran into the same situation and they gave us a credit of 340.00 I think there is an expiration date with it tho, we didn't want to leave disney even after 10 days so we called and used it towards a flight home 4 days later...stayed at animal kingdom....loved it LOL!

LOL! Okay, yes, any credit issued by Southwest has to be USED (not just rebooked) within one year of your original booking, not of your original flight.

Does this work with Delta Airlines too?

In some locations where they're highly competitive, Delta and other airlines might give credits, but it is not their policy. Southwest is the only airline that, as policy, will credit you if you rebook at a lower fare. On southwest.com go to "Travel Center" and follow the link to change your tickets (if you bought them online to begin with).

We had the same thing happen to us on United. Our airfares went down almost $300.00! so, they sent us each a voucher for a certain amount which you can transfer into one voucher if you want to. I'd rather have had the money put back on my Credit card but they would not do that because they would be losing $$$ that way. Helen

Also worthy to note, that if you used a voucher to pay for any part of the airfare you are refunding, the expiration date for travel using the new voucher will be the date of that original voucher. So, if you applied a voucher of $24 (expiring Oct 7 '06) to the purchase of $400 in airfare and then wanted to cancel or switch to a lower fare, unless refundable, the resulting voucher for the $difference will also have an expiration date of Oct 7 '06.

OP: Given your wording of your question, You probably didn't use a voucher on your purchase, but sometimes it makes no sense to change flights to save $100 or so and which may have a less convienent time if that resulting voucher will expire on you anyway.

Thanks for everyone's help! I changed my flight on the website and got my refund in the form of a credit towards a future flight. I managed to save $80. I'll probably use that for a flight to New Orleans next year.
