I just got back from our wonderful first Disney vacation. It was an almost perfect Disney vacation and would have been if it weren't for Air Tran. Air Tran has great rates. $99 round trip plus tax!! Great prices but flying with them was a nightmare. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 3:06 pm. I live about an 1 1/2 hour away from the airport and my parents live at least 2 hours away. We were loading up our car to leave for the airport when AirTran called to inform us that our flight was cancelled. They booked us on a flight leaving at 7:20 pm. When I went on the internet to print our boarding pass the flight was delayed. I called to see how delayed and a nice customer service representative found an earlier flight for all 7 of us. It left at 3:22. We were booked on that flight over the phone. I didn't print out the boarding pass since we were pressed for time. I was told to just check in at the airport. We ran out the door drove to the airport only to be told that AirTran overbooked that flight and we were being bumped off. I have a 10 year old autistic child. Transitions can be extremely difficult for him which is part of the reason why we waited so long for this trip. I wanted to make sure that he could "handle" it. Ray the supervisor basically told us to bad shame on me for changing my reservations to an earlier flight. He was very rude, ignored us, and didn't even book us on another flight. I called from the 1-800 # to make the reservations myself. The earliest flight left from Newark, NJ at 6:00 am and we were told to be there at 4:00 am. We were in Philadelphia, PA at the time. Customer service (Josephine) told Ray the supervisor to give us vouchers for a hotel and he refused!! She told him that we were in fact booked on the flight and he told her too bad it was first come first serve. She then transferred me to Joanne at CRD who told me to book up to 3 hotel rooms at a moderate hotel and she would issue a credit to my credit card once I faxed her the hotel room bill. So we then had to pack the car back up and drive the 2 1/2 hours to Newark.
We then went straight to the airport to get a boarding pass (I wasn't going to take any chances) We checked in at the Days Inn hotel. I called again to see if this was considered a "moderate" hotel. Customer service said to use my judgement Joanne left a note for up to 3 rooms. At 3:30 am before we left for the airport I had the hotel fax the bill. When I called later on in the day to confirm that it was received I was told that Joanne did not note weither she received it or not but not to worry, her note specified 3 rooms (we only got 2). I was told to enjoy my vacation it would be taken care of. After our vactaion I called back and was told that the fax was received but after further review they were not going to pay for the hotel. The original flight was cancelled due to weather conditions.
I argued with them and was then told they would pay for 1/2 of the bill!
The supervisor would not even come on the phone to speak to me. This was the second time that AirTran told me one thing and someone else from AirTran overruled it. The lesson I learned is sometimes a great deal comes at a greater price. We had to extend our vacation an extra day to pay for the "late start". That meant one more day for our two dogs at the kennel, one more day at Orlando Dream Villas, and then 1/2 the hotel bill!
