I have to cancel our December trip due to DH's health. I have the flight down booked through Southwest and I know I can get full credit to be on a later flight for up to a year. Our flights back are on AirTran. What is their policy? Do they really charge the full $50/ticket? If so, I guess I'm out the full fare because the tickets were only $49 a piece. Can any one tell me if I've completely lost out on the AirTran tickets?

If AirTran's published cancellation policy states that there's a $50 charge per ticket then, yes, what you paid for the tickets will be eaten by the fee.

We had a trip planned and I had to cancel due to surgery. I called the airlines and they gave a fax number for the dr. to fax them a note explaining why I couldn't fly and they gave me a credit good for a year.

Thanks, Mousey! I was hoping that they would do something similar to SW.

It might depend on who you get on the phone. I had to cancel a trip due to surgery and I was still subject to the $50 change fee with Air Tran.
