I've started looking at the airfares for our February trip. Not good. Most of the good deals run until early January. Jet Blue has some good deals, but travel has to be completed by 2/12. 2/12 would be about the earliest we could leave.

Does anyone know if the airlines historically run deals from the northeast to Orlando in February and when those deals usually start? Is February a peak time to travel? I thought only some schools in the northeast have a midwinter vacation.

I'm rambling on. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I have been looking myself for airlaine deals for a trip in early Feb. The key to a good deal is to get there before Presidents Day.
Feb 15th. The rates go up after the 15th and plus it is Daytona 500 racing weekend that week. I am trying to fly out midweek on the 5th or 6th (Wed or Thursday) and come back on a Friday or Sat 14th or 15th. Better deals flying midweek. The best deal I have found is 149$ roundtrip from Balt to Orlando for me as I live outside of Philadelphia. I want something closer to $100 roundtrip so I am hoping to get close. An suggestions out there folks on how I can get there? Good Luck

I am flying out of Grand Rapids, MI in Jan. (16th - 25th). I've been searching and searching and finally found $226 on United yesterday - perfect times going down and coming back. I wanted to double check with DH, and this morning I get back online to book the tix. Yep, everything went up...lots. I was kicking myself all day long. Then around 4:00 I checked again and everything had come down again. So I wound up booking on NW for $205 per tickets, tax and fees included. Yippee! Believe me, this is a good fare out of Grand Rapids.

THEN you stinkers have to go and ruin it by saying that you were looking for $100 r/t! I'm jealous!! Oh, well...that's what I get for not living in a big city:p

Have fun planning and good luck! Just remember, check, check, and check again.

I agree with checking again and again. The internet specials seem to fluctuate. I snagged our tickets on Southwest as soon as the dates became available- $190 R/T (including all taxes and fees) from Portland OR! I'm still amazed I am flying across country for 95 each way. And it's only one stop and we don't even get off the plane. And plug in weird departure and arrival days- I think Tues, Wed and Sat usually have the cheapest fares with some airlines. I know we are departing on a Thurs and returning a Sat and it helped get the price I wanted.

I'm from the northeast also.... so good luck...lol
I just keep checking... I've found some flights for around 200.
We are going in march. Keep checking websites every couple of days. I've seen flight change price 3 or 4 times since I started checking.

Got an e- mail from Southwest today. They've got some fares from Albany, NY to Orlando for $67 each way. You have to book by 11-14, but this goes through the end of their schedule (March). Good luck! Diana

I've been holding out for lower fares for Jan 29th from Newark to Orlando. Finally booked today for $211 RT and got the 9:30AM flight out and the 8:10PM return, both non-stops. Not too many non-stop combinations were left at the lowest fares.

This part of trip-planning has been making me crazy :bounce: . I've been watching airfare for months, checking at least 3 airports in this area, and the prices have no rhyme or reason. It's gone from $139, restrictions too much to deal with, to $345, since we're coming back the day after President's Day. I finally took the plunge and booked AirTrans, like I had originally planned before I thought I might get a better deal elsewhere. I got 4 r/t tickets from Akron-Canton (30 minutes from my house), no layovers, 7:20am departure and 10:10pm return. $821 for 4 of us. Although I would've liked to have found flights for less, I'm so relieved that it's done that I feel like I got a good deal! Hang in there and grab those tickets when it's a price you can live with!

We live in Syracuse, and although our drinking water is one of the best in the country ;) , our airline situation is the worst. We don't even have any direct flights to Orlando anymore.

My sister-in-law is a travel agent. She quoted $966 for the four of us after taxes with Delta, I believe. Ideally we'd leave 2/15 as that is the first day of mid winter school break, but she couldn't find anything. So quoted us 2/12 - 2/19. The kids would have to miss three days of school. Oh, Southwest doesn't even fly from Syracuse. I guess we could drive to Rochester (1 1/2 hours) or Albany (2 hrs.), but I would have to save a bundle for it to be worth the headache.

I'm hoping JetBlue comes up with a better deal. Right now it's $244 to get there and $94 to get back (per ticket). Get real!

Thanks for letting me vent! If anyone finds anything, keep us posted.

Goofy Guy, We live in Delaware County, not far from you. I found cheap fares on Spirit Airlines (spiritair.com or spiritairlines.com) out of Atlantic City (ACY). We're travelling same time as you too, but I wanted direct flights - don't want to chance snow anywhere! - so I felt lucky to get $184 RT. I think Spirit has flights as low as $69 each way or something like that if you don't mind connections and are flexible w/ departure/arrival times. I also have read about others getting cheap flights out of Allentown (ABE), but I didn't find that when I looked. Good luck!

Thanks for the info about Atlantic City! I will have to watch Spirit closely. I got a $158 R/T from BWI direct flight with Southwest,
Leaving on a Wed and coming back on a Friday the next week. Its a good rate but I really have to convince my gun-shy wife to fly. She was not a good flyer before Sept 11 and now I really have to find a fare closer to $100 R/T to convince her to go along with our 5 yr old.Last time we went to WDW my daughter was two and free!!!!! Three rates cost more than the norm two.
Plus if we drive I will be driving for 20 of the 24 hours as my wife
tends to tire easliy.
I also looked at Allentown and found nothing. maybe i am just not looking properly. Any other thoughts out there would be great. I tried Albany, Harrisburg,Islip,LI, and Philadelphia and Baltimore seems the best with Southwest. Plus try different airports Like Jacksonville and Tampa to fly into
Thanks
Brad

Allentown has southeast airlines. They fly into into Sanford though....not MCO. They also do not fly on tues. and Wed.

Try www.airtran.com I got a total (tax included) nonstop, Phl to Mco of $158. yesterday (tues 11/11) That was a Thursday departure and a Monday return, end of Jan to beginning of Feb 2003

Thanks for all the advice! I got onto Southwest. They do have Albany to Orlando for $67 one way, but all the flights out of here are booked. We wouldn't be able to leave until the Wednesday in the middle of vacation. We're gonna keeping looking.

I even got onto mapquest to see how long of a drive it would be. I don't know if I could handle 20 hours in a car with my two rowdies! LOL. Not to mention the very realistic worry of a snow storm.

Have a look at flying into Tampa instead of Orlando. I booked Buffalo to Tampa for Feb 8 - 15 for $139 including taxes. I got the deal on Delta's website. It's an extra hour or so of driving as opposed to Orlando, but was worth it for the $80 per seat we are saving over flying into Orlando for the same dates.

We are also looking in the Phila area except our dates are 2/12-2/17 & the airfares are insane. Our DS's (3) have 1/2 day Thur before Pres Day & Fri off so we figured we could squeeze a 5 day trip in during the cold winter but the airfares may keep us at home. USAir has such a lock on Phila that I've seen airfares from $300-$700 for Phila to Orlando. I'm not paying $3500. to fly to Orlando FL.
Praying that the fares come down in Phila. - Peggy

We just booked Us Air out of Phila March 5-11. We got rt 200.50.
Check again, I think fares just went down.
