Air fare better in early-mid July or late August?

I guess the title says it all ;)

We were really aiming on doing a Couples cruise for our 10 year anniversary and our babysitting plans fell through  So my husband got an  and said "You know, it's been almost 2 YEARS (I know, I shake my head in shame here. lol) since we took the kids to Disney..."

Naturally my ears perked up and I try to be as nonchalant going "Disney?" :rolleyes1 but inside I'm like :woohoo:

Anyways, due to a religious month, we can either go from early to mid July (before the 20th) or after August 20th or so.

Which month is more airfare friendly?

It is generally high all summer. For a definitive answer, you need to do some searching for the dates you need to see what prices are like.

Well, that is a given :) I just was wondering if one part of those months is a bit cheaper than the other. I wish I could pull my kids out of school for a non summer month but at this point in time, it's not even an option :(

You might want to ask over on the travel forum. The people over there are travel experts - they have helped me with budget time periods on car rentals before - maybe they could help.

Where we live, because schools are back in session in mid August, the July fares are much higher than end of August fares for the most part.

There are usually some good airfare deals in late August - we always travel those last two weeks (late start school). The best sales - if they happen - won't be for awhile yet.

But right now, I can get $140 each way from Sacramento to Orlando on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on Frontier in late August. I'm just waiting for word on my bonus/raise for the year before booking. Should be getting that word any minute now - literally! Do you think my boss would hold it against me if I tackled her and demanded the paperwork? :rolleyes1

:rotfl: Not at all! LOL

Right now I'm drawing up the figures for July and August travel. In July the room price is a tad higher but the flight prices are decent. In August, the rooms are cheaper but the airfare starts to climb. I'm really hoping that DH and I can get a number together that HE likes (I'm a SAHM so we'll be spending *his* money. lol) and surprise the kids... again!

I see you are from NJ. I am from NY and traveling to Disney August 26 for 8 nights and want to leave from EWR.
I can't find air lower than $350-$400. I will only fly nonstop and also just a little flexible with travel times. We just booked air to FLL over Memorial Day weekend on CO and with taxes and fees came to $239, which I was very happy with.
I am looking at CO, JetBlue and anything else that is nonstop from EWR.
Good luck to us! :thumbsup2

Thanks! My husband is talking about driving to Disney but apparently he hasn't read the news lately in regards to gas prices :surfweb: My mom said it's already about $3.70 in her area of Orlando and climbing. That and the airfare is the more sane option for us. My 3 kids aren't car angels ;)

I was looking at SW *but* the good prices require 1 or more stops :sad2: Ridic!

Massillon Dad, yep. I'd rather July since late August is cutting it close to school shopping for us but hey, if I get to go to Disney, I aim for flexibility :woohoo:

That's nothing - it's $4.19 here by me this morning! Yesterday morning it was $4.09. It seems to jump $.10 a day lately. I didn't have time to stop and fill up this morning, so I'm sure I'll be paying $4.29 tomorrow when I finally get to it....
