My ds (4 1/2) and I both have asthma. We would like to know about the individual climate control in the room. We prefer that the room is very cold. (Our cabin on the Carnival Triumph last year was very warm, and we could not adjust the temperature.)
We are booked on the Magic in room 6572. Any comments or suggestions? Thank you so much! I love these message boards!

I also have asthma and prefer the cabin to be cool when possible.

It's been my experience that the cabin cools down better when the ship is not docked. It usually takes at least until 6 or 6:30pm to cool down on the first evening out.

From the deck plans I see that you're in a Veranda Cabin and from experience, I know that it does help to keep the curtains closed to the Veranda when you aren't sitting out on it or viewing it from the couch.

It also seems to help when we close the privacy curtains between the double bed and the couch. Since it was just my DW and I and we didn't use the sofa, I can't say what effect that had on the couch area, but it seemed cooler also.

My DW and I have resolved that we will buy a small electric fan that oscillates to help with the air flow on our next cruise. We are used to a ceiling fan at home. If you decide on a small portable fan too, you'll also need to bring an extension cord, there's only one outlet and it's on the left desk of the desk.

It was never warm enough that I felt I needed more medication than I use normally at home.

I just reread your original post and I would have to qualify my statements by saying we were comfortable with the temperature at 70 or 72 degrees.

I agree with Albiats that the room will seem very warm until the ship gets up and running. I remember thinking "oh no, I'll never be able to sleep!", but within an hour or two of sailing it was fine. I also was in a cabin right down the hall from you on our 1st cruise - 6588. I don't have asthma, but hate a hot stuff room. I opened the doors to the verandah and also the doors to our room for about 5 mins. - great cross ventilation ...the stale, stuffy feeling was gone in a snap. I like the small fan idea, but we found just cracking verandah door after the sun went down helped move the air too.

We noticed that every time we returned to our cabin, it was cooler (as in "cold") than it was when we left. We figured our stateroom host probably got warm servicing the cabins and would turn down the temp when entering and forget to put it back where it was. That's the opposite of what I often run into with hotel rooms.

Thank you for your replies. I now feel more comfortable knowing that I won't be miserable the entire cruise. We too like the room to be about 70 degrees or so. I will follow your great suggestion of bringing a small fan with us. There is nothing worse than stale, still air in a small space. Thanks again.

I hope to find a fan that oscillates and that can be attached to a surface at an angle. I like the type that clamps on to a surface from any angle and not one that has to sit on a flat surface like a desk.

I was realy expecting to see ceiling fans in the cabins since they're in most Disney Hotel rooms, but it wasn't so.

I'll have to try opening the Veranda door and the cabin door at the same time to 'change the air' on my next cruise. I remember opening it once when someone knocked on the door and the howl from the air rushing through, so it should work well.

I don't think it would be feasible to have ceiling fans in the cabins, because they would need to be securely reinforced above the ceiling and I don't think the ship's construction would allow it. It IS a nice idea though.

Yes, I would agree that it would be more difficult to have ceiling fans in there now.

However, when we were on our January cruise and were docked near the Grand Princess Ship, I noticed that they had ceiling fans in their rooms with Verandas and we were envious.

It can be done, it just needs to be planned and engineered in advance. Hopefully, DCLs new ship(s) will have them.
