Air compressor leak?

Had a question for someone who is a bit more intelligent in this area than I am.

I just came up from downstairs and when I was down there I heard a hissing sound from the air compressor. I've never heard this sound before and I'm a bit worried. The switch is in the OFF position, so what could it be? My DH is sick in bed sleeping right now so I don't want to wake him up if I don't have to.

Is this something that can wait until morning or should I wake him up and check it out. I don't want the thing to explode or anything.

just unplug it. if it's leaking, it's just leaking air.

You can just unplug it. DH's air compressor always will kick on to release air if left on. That thing scares the crap out of me when it just all of a sudden turns on out of the middle of no where.
