I book a flight a couple of weeks ago and now it's on sale - can I get a credit?? thanks

Not a clue -why don't you phone them, that is what I would do :)

Not unless you bought a refundable ticket or the fare difference is more than the cancel fee (usually $150), in which case you'd return the ticket and re-buy it at the cheaper fare.

It depends on what fare category your ticket is under. Check your fare rules but usually cancellations can be made up to 45 minutes prior to departure of the flight. If you cancel, you will get a refund for the the value of unused ticket which can be applied to the value of a new ticket with a few stipulations ...

From the Air Canada website:
... subject to a $75 CAD change fee per direction, per passenger, plus applicable taxes and any additional fare difference, subject to availability and advance purchase requirements. The new outbound travel date must commence within a one year period from the original date of ticket issuance. If the fare for the new journey is lower, any residual amount will be forfeited.

Bolding mine. Unless the is going to save more than $150 ($75 x 2) AND is going to travel on a more expensive trip on AC within the next year, it is going to cost money (not save it).

The bolded bit means that the OP won't be able to use this credit to purchase the new (cheaper) flights. Or rather, the OP can use the credit, but any extra money would be forfeited, so the OP would have paid $150 and not gotten anything back.

If the OP is going on another (more expensive) trip on which the entire credit could be used, the credit could be used them (and the OP would have to buy the new tickets OOP).
