Is it hard to select seats 24-hrs in advance?? will they always give their "best located" seats first? I know when we flew WestJet last year and chose our seats 24-hrs in advance we had seats next to the wing so we didn't really see too much (they were the only seats available with two in front and two behind)..our neighbour who also flew with us selected her seats after us got better seats for their family..their seat selections must be random..??

Seems to me they default to acceptable-but-not-great. The first couple of times I did it, I didn't realize they only showed PART of the cabin, say, rows 18-30 or something like that--the back of the cabin. Of course the first few rows are business class, but if you look around on that webpage, you can choose to look at the more-forward rows. E.g., I was assigned row 21, could only see from row 18-back when I first loaded the page, but I did find a place to click to see the front of the cabin, and got seats in a row closer to the front, say, 14 or 15. I'm sorry, I can't remember the exact details, it's been a while, but now I know to look for the other section of the cabin as well to view ALL possible seats.

You can only select the seats that are free (I know.. I know.. Captain obvious), but most US flights (if not all) fly Tango Plus, which have pre-selected seats anyways. I always check in right at the 24 hour mark to try to snatch up those seats reserved for elite/super elite passengers (usually first 4 rows), and I'm hitting probably 75% at getting way up front. The key is to do it when your window opens up.
