Air Canada Strike

 We're booked from Calgary to Boston on September 18, to board a cruise. The current AC flights are absolutely perfect for our needs and I was delighted when I booked them. Now I'm freaking out; 75% of all available flights between here and there involve at least one AC leg, and the ones that don't have terrible scheduling and are exponentially more expensive, not to mention the already sunk-cost of the AC flights which will be returned in credit only.

Is anyone else struggling to pull the plug and re-book with other airlines or should I just suck it up and do it?
...and further to my original post, AirCanada confirmed today that "pro-active" flight cancellations would not happen prior to September 15th - as they start to position some aircraft ahead of a potential shutdown. AirCanada has also implemented a goodwill policy to allow for changes to travel dates - but flights do need to stay on AirCanada...for now... more background info: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/bus...-suspend-most-operations-as-talks-with-pilot/

My partner lives in Toronto and always flies down to meet me in NYC as basically a long layover when we go to Disney, she was booked on AC for 9/17. We were monitoring the strike news closely and saw the AC policy, didn't want to take any chances at all so we rebooked her a few days earlier at no charge. We noticed that it has to be the exact same time as the original flight to avoid additional charges though.

They settled, and I don’t quite know how to feel about that. I’m very happy for the pilots and for all the people who’s plans will not be disrupted. But my own situation now seems dire. I purchased new flights ($$$) for our group a week or so ago and have been trying ever since to cancel the AC tickets, for future credit, which was offered as a remedy. I’ve spent many frustrating hours on the website trying to use the self-serve options (totally dysfunctional) and on hold with the call centre but never able to get through. We’ve also reached out to their FB page where some people did seem to be getting replies, but none for us so far, :scared: Does anybody have any ideas on how to magically get their attention?

We have always had good luck getting through in a reasonable time over the phone. Maybe the lines are backlogged due to what was going on. Is it possible to go to the airport and talk to a person at the check in line?

That’s the only play I have left, if I can’t make something happen today. :( We have gotten a reply from the FB page, so I will be following that up right away, here.

hope they helped you! what a massive pain overall this has been.

The head of the Air Canada pilots union says she'll step down if members opt not to approve a tentative deal with the airline, raising the stakes as aviators mull whether to accept hefty salary gains or drive an even harder bargain.

Sounds like the union approved a tentative deal....but pilots still need to vote on it ???
