Air canada magical express

buxomlisa - Did you end up flying Air Canada?

I am going in December and wanted to make sure that if I book with Air Canada that I am actually flying with them the entire trip (stop over in Toronto). I previously flew to Vegas and booked with Air Canada and then found out that we were actually flying with their affiliate US Airways (I think - can't remember). I was not pleased as we found out at the airport and ended up having to pay for our luggage.

Every web site I've seen tells you if it's a codeshare. I also thing that any AC flight with a 4 digit number starting with an 2 through 9 is a codeshare. I think all Jazz flights are 4 digits start with a 1. You can consult the complete AC timetable at http://www.actimetable.com/AC.pdf to see all flights and their codeshare status.

When picking any airline make sure to check their policy on checked bags. Many airlines charge for checking bags (each way) that can add $$$ to your trip.

I know that WestJet, Air Canada, JetBlue & Southwest do not charge for the 1st bag.

I always like flying with Air Canada & West Jet. But now with a family of 5 it's too expensive, so we drive down to Burlington, VT and fly from there on JetBlue :lovestruc we save around 2000$ :woohoo:

Hi! I am finding conflicting info online about travelling from a Canadian airport to Orlando, connecting via Montreal (or Toronto for that matter) and using the Magical Express.

However, the last discussion in this thread, from a couple of years ago, said that I do NOT need to claim my bags in Orlando to bring them to the DME Welcome Center, rather they will be treated like U.S. Domestic. It was also stated that I don't even have to claim my bags in Montreal to go through U.S. customs??? Really?

So I take from this that my bags will go all the way from my home airport to Montreal to MCO to my Disney resort room without my handling them. Even the DME confirmation email doesn't make it sound like that. I'd like to revive this thread and find out if I've got it right. Thanks!!!

Unfortunately, not paying for bags USED to be the norm on Air Canada..now you have to pay $25 per bag :( we are flying home air Canada and will pay $75 in baggage fees :( I am glad we are flying to Orlando via WJ because they still allow a free bag!

If you have a connecting flight in Canada, you'll need to collect your bags to go through US Customs at the last connection prior to entering the US. On arrival in Orlando you'll just go straight to ME, no need to collect your bags.

If you are flying direct, and your home airport has a US Customs Pre-Clearance, you can take advantage of clearing US Customs in Canada and will not have to collect your bags in Orlando. Just head straight to ME and off to your resort, no need to collect your bags.

If you do not go through US Customs prior to entering the US, you will be required to collect your bags in Orlando (to go through US Customs) before going to ME.

Are there any airports in Canada where you do not pre-clear US customs prior to boarding a flight to the US?

Yes, only Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Winnipeg have pre-clearance. For instance if you were flying from Moncton-Newark you would go through US Customs in Newark.

Thank you Fan1080 and Disney Daniel, your answers put the record straight. I don't live in a large city, so I'll fly to Montreal, go through US customs there, then not touch my bags after. And I'll disregard the usual instructions for international visitors that say to collect bags in Orlando.
