Has anyone been reading the stories about Air Canada talking about the possibility of declaring bankruptcy. My son is getting married in Jamaica in May and there are 29 people going down. I hope that they are just jumping on the bailout bandwagon and hoping for money like the Big 3.

a friend of mine is a flight stewart with West Jet, and he was telling me apparently there is talk of AC going on strike this summer, they were told to no expect much vacation time since they figure they will be so busy.

Didn't they do this a few years ago in order to get government assistance?

They may file for protection but the Gov't will never let them go.

Some divisons (FA's) are in a position to strike as they have rejected the proposed pay hike. They are already grossly overpaid IMO and it's time some of those senior ones moved on! They are at the top of the pay scale and that would allow some of the juniors to move up at their lower pay scale and perhaps even create employment! But I guess when you can fly to 65 - 8 hours a month to keep employed, why wouldn't they?

I think Passenger Agents also are in a position to strike..

Whichever TA you booked with should be able to answer your questions and concerns...they will also be able to help you with your reservations should anything happen :goodvibes

 don't get me started on Air Canada:mad:

My husband along with about 10 other people got pulled off of a flight in Toronto Friday night. WHY? cause they overbooked!! I know so many people that this has happen to. He flew for business, otherwise WE, he will never fly AC. It's not worth the risk; in my opinion.

Sorry, to intrude on the original post.

Unfortunately, you can get pulled off of any flight. They all overbook.:confused3

If you pay by credit card you're protected. You won't loss your money but unfortunately they can't help you with the actual travel part.

My sister was yanked off her flight in SLC with Delta a few years ago. When she asked about a voucher or some sort of compensation, they told her "you're Canadian, you get nothing."

They all do this-a lot!

I know, a lot of airlines do this BUT I swear I know 4 people who have had this happen on AC in the last 6 months. That sucks about your sister. They did offer my dh $100 for his OOP expense - extra hotel night in Toronto and food. He refused and is charging it back to his company and along with a letter requesting that that he only fly Westjet. Yeah, he's a hot head, but apparently it was not pretty at the AC counter in Toronto Friday night. Everyone was pretty mad.. Just glad I wasn't there.

ah, thanks for letting me rant. I sure had to hear it from my dh ;)

Why would he refuse the $100?

cause he was a little upset! ha that's putting it lightly.
Also, he was on a business trip, and I think this was the last straw to his company using Air Canada for their employees! Like I said this has happen to more than 4 of his co-workers in less than 6 months...

that's 5 people pulled off 5 different flights in less than 6 months.

ok I'm sorry, I brought this up now! So, I won't say anything more. Again, I was just venting! Hopefully, it won't happen to anyone else.

I was just curious. I would have taken the $100 and complained to my company.

Westjet does not overbook.

I agree. It is Westjet's policy to not overbook flights.

Air Canada is famous for overbooking flights. Or is a better term 'infamous'?

Photomama, I would be furious too. What is $100? A pretty much useless insult.

Can't speak for Westjet..just know that the majority of scheduled carriers do. Often when you have as many aircraft as AC and others do..an aircraft change can create a domino effect alone. One goes mechanical, they sub another that could be of less capacity and there begins the downward spiral...

With AC..always check in online 24 hours prior and always get seat assignment. If you aren't there by flight cut off time--even if you are stuck in the lineup--your booking can become null and void pretty fast!

If you already have a seat assignment with AC can you still get pulled off?

I totally agree... $100 for dinner and a hotel. I'm sorry but what kind of flea-bag hotel does AC expect you to stay in for say $80 beside an airport???
