Air Canada arrival gates/baggage claim in MCO

I'm trying to plan a meeting area in MCO for my in-laws who are flying Air Canada from YYZ. They'll arrive 30 minutes before my United flight from LAX. If I'm reading the MCO website correctly, the AC gates are 1-29 with baggage claim in Side A. Meanwhile, I'll have to go to Side B for United's baggage claim.

I was planning on telling the in-laws to collect their bags first in Side A, then come back up to level 3 and wait in the atrium area for me to come out of the train from the United gates (30-59). We'd then go down to Side B to pick up my bags and proceed to the Alamo counter from there. According to the airport map, it looks like the security area and AGT trains for gates 1-29 and 30-59 will be on the non-Hyatt, non-fountain side of the main terminal.

Does anyone know if I'm reading the map and airport website correctly?

It actually would have been a bit easier if we were both on the Hyatt-entrance side, since I could tell them to look for the hotel entrance and/or fountain, but at least we should be coming out in the same area, instead of one party at the fountain area and one party in the non-fountain area. :)

Why not pick a place in the Food Court? That way they can grab a bite or coffee while they wait for you.

::yes::

Just remind them to check the arrivals board:) Hopefully you won't be late/delayed - and neither will they!

And it's always a good idea to have a "contact" plan - if your/their flight is cancelled - of how to get in touch with each other. Just as a back up:)

Have fun!

Air Canada and United Airlines are both in Side B and both use gates 30-59. I flew into MCO with AC from Toronto last year and arrived at gate 56 and departed a week later from gate 55. AC and UA are partners often sharing same planes with different flight numbers (I believe they are part of Star Alliance).

Just a heads up and a correction.
Air Canada no longer flys in and out of side B. They use Gate 22 (mostly) and are definetly on Side A now. I have been back and forth from MCO three times in the last week.
I have a MCO map here with me and can answer any more questions if you have some.

Thanks for the correction! My apologies for steering folks in the wrong direction...

If you land on the A side and pick up your baggage and then want to go to the B side do you have to go through security to get from the A side to the B side?

No, you don't have to go back through security (and probably couldn't without a proper boarding pass) to get to the B side again.
Actually, everything sounds more complicated than it really is in regards to the A & B side.
Everything meets up in the middle of the airport in a large concourse no matter if you come in from the A or the B side.

Thank you everyone for your replies! I'm finalizing an itinerary doc for the in-laws tonight and will ask them to come back up to the main terminal after they pick up their luggage. We'll have cell phones with us, so if I don't see them right away, I'll call them. If there was a Tim Hortons at MCO, I'd know where to find them :rotfl: but I'll let them know about the food court and the Starbucks too.

Questforthemouse, no need to worry! Even MCO hasn't fully updated their website with the change of Air Canada's gates. The airlines section of the site has the updated gate information, but at least one of their maps still has AC listed as using gates 30-59. Anyone could be confused, which is one reason I posted on the DIS. I love these boards! Everyone is sooooo helpful. Thanks again everyone!

MaryannF, you don't have to go through security, but you do have to go back UP to the main concourse level in order to cross over to Side B. I don't think there's a way to cross from Side A to Side B from either the baggage claim or ground transportation levels. But maybe someone here on the DIS knows of a way.
