AHHHHHH Why do I do it?

insanity

I had to post something, and it took all my might not to go off!

I didn't read all the posts because I would end up angry. But I did notice the OP never posted again. Started the thread and disappeared. Bonehead.

Before I post this please understand, when I use the term "Middle America" I never use it as a term to describe work type, income level or even geographical location for that matter. I tend to use it as a term to describe people who have been shut off to things such as culture, creativity and, yes, lifestyles that are different than than their own. I guess what I'm trying to say is I use this term to describe those who are uneducated about things they have no experience with, but choose to remain uneducated. Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, a lot of the US (happily) lives this way and have no intentions of expanding their horizons or views.

Haaaaaving said thaaaaat...... :lmao:

I saw a lot of "Middle America" leaving comments and trying to convince other people (and perhaps even themselves) that they're not against gay people....and yet these are the same people who don't want gay people holding hands in front of their children.

There was one person who actually used the word "ick" to describe how they felt about showing PDAs by both straight AND gay people at Disney World because, as she put it, (paraphrased) "This shouldn't happen at Disney World because it's a family place". I honestly feel sorry for this person's child--Having been taught that publicly showing affection (even within reason) for someone you care about is wrong. Or possibly this person was just using this as a guise to cover the fact that they just didn't want to see gay people holding hands or kissing. Who knows.

I also noticed (at least when I was on there) that the points being made by the gay people, although some of which were quite informative, were being completely ignored by everyone. Hmmmm......if you're going to ask a question about Gay Days, doncha think it might be a good idea to....oh....I dunno....LISTEN TO SOMEONE WHO IS GAY???? :headache: It's like standing next to Linda and yelling to someone across the room, "HEY.......DOES LINDA DRIVE A SCION?"

Sorry. I didn't think I was going to get offended by reading that thread, but I kind of was.

I actually thought that was pretty tame, there was a few things that were a little edged, but all in all, I've seen worst.

Tolerance does go both ways, but ignorance doesn't and should be crushed at appropriate opportunities and in proper ways.

When was the last time you saw a thread by a gay DISer asking about all the straights in the parks? Will the straights be holding hands and kissing? What if the children see the straights? How do you explain that some kids have a male AND a female parent? :scared1:

I would start a thread about "What if there are right wing whack jobs in the parks?" But then I would get in trouble. :guilty:

It boggles me. It would be lovely if all the bigots stayed home for Gay Days. Since we have never been in June it would be good to have lower crowds than August.

I stoped reading last night after I went home. I actually had a very nice date with my girlfriend , in public, which included some hand holding and maybe a kiss or two. ICK! I do not even want to go back and look at that thread, lets pray for a busy day at work! LOL
I do agree for what I read it was pretty tame on here.

Why do I open Gay day threads!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

LOL, you pretty much just started a Part 2 here, if you ask me!

However, somehow I missed that topic. Glad I did.
I can deal with the initial question, but the follow-ups
are something else.

I've never been to "Gay Days" at Disney. I have no idea what
goes on. I'll have to back track on earlier posts for trip reports
during these days.

:surfweb:

I think this says a lot though:

So, Web Master Pete OWNS this board? I did not know that.
He obviously paints a different picture of gay days than 99% of the posters here, and if what he says is true, why on earth would anybody want to subject their kids to that kind of behavior? not me. no thank you.
Pete, if you are reading this, thank you for being honest with us about the behavior that gos on in the MK on gay day. as a parent, I appreciate it.

The fact that this horrible misrepresentation still exists on this board and drives beliefs and understandings like the above is so wrong.

LOL, I think you should post it, see what response you get........:rotfl::rotfl:

I saw that thread but I didn't open it because it annoys the heck out of me and I am not gay :)

Yep, I must admit that the commentary written by Pete regarding Gay Days really does promote more harm than good.

I would have thought by now, he'd have revised it, or taken it down as it really isn't an accurate representation of what really goes on in the MK that very first weekend in June...

It's funny that those who are trying their hardest to cling to intolerance cite that commentary.

Thank you for bringing up a very good point. One of DP's and my fears is that our children will be influenced by that behavior and end up straight. We've tried our best to bring them up right, but what can a parent do when that stuff by the straights is going on right in front of them?:goodvibes

I just sent that person a PM about some of the misconceptions that Pete has about Gayday, and how he refuses to change that old essay.

I am going to ask a question here. I, unfortunately, know the thread being referred to. I followed it and do remember one thing. Someone referred to Disney songs being sung by a huge group in front of the castle at some point during this week. Does this really happen???? I would love to be there for that. My kids and I sing along to Disney all the time while in the car. What kind of songs are sung? My 9 yo son's absolute favorite is "Poor Unfortunate Souls". Does someone lead? Requests taken? Am I way off base here? It just sounds really fun. Does everyone hold hands? I think I would want to.
