Ahhh! Split Stay?

Okay, what would y’all do?

We have a trip booked for two weeks. It’s a king bed room at CBR and they don’t have any non king bed rooms available besides the pirate room with the military discount.

My sister is visiting us the day we arrive which is a Saturday until that Tuesday and obviously the king bed won’t work. I was debating doing a split stay where we would just stay in a pirate room those nights and then move to our room we have booked. We would just change the check in date.

Is that something y’all would recommend? Any other ideas? I’m leaning towards the same resort split stay. I just don’t want to be in the pirate room for two weeks.

We love split stays! Most of our trips also almost always include an add-on night or two that we decide on long after we've booked that is usually a split. I agree, I'm not sure I'd want to be in the pirate rooms for two weeks either, or any resort for that matter! lol (we've never done CBR though at all so I can't give an opinion based on those specific rooms or resort ).

Will you or your sister have a car? If so, in lieu of the military discount, have you checked Shades of Green? If you haven't stayed there before, those rooms are pretty spacious. Next month we are doing a split stay once we arrive on WDW property with SOG/Coronado.

Same resort would definitely be easier though! Many people don't like split stays from what I've read, but I've also read a lot of people change resorts for long trips.

I would do AoA or Pop for those days. Still close to CBR. When you are searching for rooms, make sure to select “room” and not the room deal. There might be regular rooms available at CBR just without the discount.

I would split stay somewhere else! They move your luggage for you, so aside from packing up the night before you really just leave from one resort and come back to another. We are doing our first split stay this summer and I’m excited about being able to try a new resort, but also to be able to stay at our favorite/regular resort.

If you have room in the room (occupancy wise), get a rollaway bed. They can be rented if not available at the front desk.

I dont know if Disney can split your reservation and keep the discount...

Hi everyone! Thank you for the feedback. I called Disney this morning. For the first few nights we will be in a pirate two bed room. Then for the remainder, we will be in our non pirate king bed room. All with the military discount. I just now have two dining reservation days.

yes! Which is why we didn’t want to be there the entire trip. I think it will be okay though for 3 out of the 14 nights.

Honestly, unless you can’t get a military discount for your dates anywhere else, I would stay at another resort from the time you arrive at WDW until your sister leaves. While the double beds are an issue with the pirate rooms, the biggest problem is how far away they are from everything at CBR. You are looking at a 10-15 min walk to anything there and it’s really not worth it, especially because they charge a premium for those rooms.

Switching resorts within WDW resorts is no harder than changing your room at your resort as it’s honestly the same process. Either way you are going to have to pack up, check out from your original and bring your bags to bell services and wait until the new room is available. The only difference is that you might have to wait slightly longer for your luggage, but usually it gets there by the time you would get back from the parks anyways. Especially if you are there for 14 days, you might as well try another resort on your trip.

Chasgeese has a solid suggestion, we do splits all the time - bell services even moves your luggage to the new resort/room, if you're going to have to go through it anyway might as well get a better room for that time. Moving resorts really is no more difficult than moving rooms. Since it's 3 days maybe you can even upgrade to something you wouldn't do for the whole time because of cost.
