Does anyone know if there are still such things as Tupperware Parties?? Or are they too twee and things of the past?? Ive just been given my mums old tupperware storage bowl and I can remember it coming out every big event in our household with its inner contents dry and fresh ready for our gatherings. We used to go to a lot of these parties with my mum when we were all smaller but dont seem to hear of them now. Its all mrs. Summers and her do-dahs around my area - er, not that Id know of course!!?!
And who remembers Pippa Dee - ugh! those polyester dresses made to wash and wear over and over and flippin' over - it didnt matter how hard us girls tried to ruin them things, they were resistant to all manner of garden implements, grasslands, twigs. Just pop in the machine and hey presto, ready to wear to yet another Tupperware party!!
Any other things people remember that dont seem to be around much now?

Oh my goodness, that's a trip down memory lane. I have never been to a Tupperware party (can you think of anything more boring ???) and I haven't heard of them in years. As for Pippa-Dee I've never heard of it. Are they both 'do's' from the 70's ?? Now I've been to a few Ann Summers parties in my time (oooh errr !!!) and they've always been good for a laugh :rotfl:

I've been to lots of Tupperware parties - last one was about 10 years ago. I thought they were in financial trouble but they still seem to have their headquarters in Orlando. I've got a Pippa Dee dressing gown from the 70's. DD used to use it to dress up as Mulan.

I remember when cafes were in Bakery shops and not in book shops...I remember banks shutting at 3pm...I remember regulation school knickers...I remember 10 shilling notes...

This makes me sound ancient - I'm 43.

Both very 1970's. ;)
I remember our house having several tupperware items bought from a tupperware party.....usually pale turquoise with a whiteish lid.
Candle Parties are the big thing now, or Ann Summers or Virgin Vie

We even went to the Tupperware Museum in Florida before it closed!

:rolleyes1

anyone remember those stylophones, keyboard things, the box had a picture of rolf harris on it..
oh and what about the sweets that were out then in the 70's, black jacks, starbars, jubilees,.....anyone else remember anymore :teeth:

I also remember banks closing at 3pm also supermarkets closing at 5:30 and having a 'half day' closing - in our town it was wednesdays, I remember when we didn't have a telephone at home and none of our friends did either, I remember playing outside with my sister in the countryside, leaving home in the morning witha packet of crisps and a promise to be back before dark. Scrumping apples!!! without getting sued! and Pacer sweets.
Remember 3 tv channels that didn't even start until about 12 midday and never wearing seat belts in the car (how bizarre now!)
wow! I'm 34 - thats so old.

... and can you remember when we didn't have computers ??...... and The Disboards ?? - how on earth did we cope !!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I can't imagine not having a PC now.....or the DISboards!!

I love looking back at all things from the 70's. :goodvibes

Sweets from the 70's......spangles, toffos, argentinas, Tudor crisps (remember the advert with the paper boy) Fry's Five Centres, moon (or space) dust, double dips. I see Texans are making a come back too!

I remember going to the cinema a few times in the cinema - The Cat from Outer Space and Evil Knieval (?SP)

On Tv we had Angels - (wonder if this inspired me to become a nurse........), Charlies Angels, Little House on the Prairie, The Wombles and The New Avengers - I had a 'Purdey' hair cut when I was 7!! Apparently it was 'all the rage'.........:rotfl:
We used to play Charlies Angels in the school playground - everyone wanted to be Kelly!! We used to transfor ourselves buy putting our duffel coats over our shoulders, leaving our arms out and fasten the top button. Really classy!!

:rotfl2:
I could go on and on here.........

Yeah, I was always Sabrina :rotfl: :rotfl:

:rotfl: OMG my brother and I had matching 'Pippa Dee' PJ's his were purple stripes and mine were turquoise. As I remember they were nylon and made sparks when you took them off :rotfl2: I had a 'Purdey' cut too. Must have gone well with the PJ's! DH bought me a new Texan home a couple of weeks ago just like cream eggs they have gotten much smaller. I was a big Spangles fan and when we went to the Dentist mum used to take us to 'Wimbush's' cafe for tea & a toasted currant teacake for being good (ooh we new how to have a good time eh!) :rotfl2:

Lisash: My memories of pippa dee include hair sparks too!
Carolfoy: were pacers the mints with liquid centres?

Our tupperware was dark brown, and my auntie's was orange!! And it was breakable, coz my dad got me to jump on a plate in our kitchen. He got the blame from Mum!

I too succumbed to the purdey 'do' at around 7, and always wanted to be the bionic woman. (!)
We got a grey trim phone (sound effects please!) with a see through purple dial, when I was 10.
I love telling my kids that at my local sweet shop (Mum: 'go to the shop for me and keep the change') we used to get a 10p mix, which included mojo sweets at 2 for 1/2p!!

And I so wish my primary school had had uniforms, oh to be spared the fashions of the 70's!!

I can remember half penny ball bearing sweets and when we actually used to get a second post!

.. and do you remember The Double Deckers ?? and to think I'm still watching Peter Firth to this day cos he's in Spooks.

Can you remember the song ??

Get on board! Get on board!
Come and join the Double Deckers.
Take a ticket for a journey,
On our double decker London bus.
Ring the bell (ding! ding!),
Toot the horn (honk! honk!),
When you ride with the Double Deckers.
Fun and laughter is what we're after,
On our double double double decker bus. :rolleyes1

... and here they are

 What a great thread!!!!

Do you remember, Galaxy Counters, Cadburys Cream Bears, Cheese and Tomato puffs (they turned your fingers bright orange, before they took out the e-numbers!) :rotfl: Fizzie Lizzies, Bar Six and as for toys, do you remember Girls World? (a model head that came with hair rollers and cheap and nasty make up) :Pinkbounc I'm on a roll now! :cloud9:

Oooh! girls world, I sooooo wanted one! got one for about my 8th or 9th birthday and I LOVED it! went on to train as a beauty therapist so it must have been influential! My friends call me 'girls world' 'cos my hair grows at a rate of knots (no pun intended) and they're always like' Oh I saw you last month and your hair was dead short now its past your shoulders!' so I always say I pull it out my head like a girls world doll!

Oh and Mandy, your double decker song - are you sure you're not mad???!!!

Mind you I think that the best programme ever was Tiswas, with the Phantom Flan Flinger, Compost Corner, Trevor MacDonut, the Cage and not forgetting that brilliant song, 'The Bucket of Water Song' I think that the only people who have come close to this daftness is Ant & Dec

y'know Mandy there was me thinking you were a sane intellectual type of woman - you're barking!!! (would put doggy smillie here but my computer won't let me post them at the mo - also add a few wink wink and rotfl)
