Okay here's the deal. Thanksgiving is at my house and after talking to my Grams last night she tells me we should just have chicken instead of turkey.

Her reasoning is this:
1. We have 6 people out of the 20 or so coming who are vegetarian and won't be eating any meat at all.
2. We have 3 who just don't like turkey, and all 4 of my kids don't know the difference and don't care.
3. We are leaving the day after for WDW and I don't want alot of leftovers and she said I shouldn't wear myself out doing so much when people are happy either way.

I talked to DH and he said he didn't care especially since we won't be around for the turkey sandwiches the next day.
Personally I don't care either because, truth be told, I've always preferred the side dishes anyway. ;) :)
At first when she suggested this I was like no way. Now I'm kind of toying with the idea. Her suggestion was to go to Sam's Club and get some of their rotissere chickens. (She really likes those.)
If everything else was the same...(stuffing, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, corn casserole, rolls, pies and cakes, etc) is it weird to skip the turkey? :confused3

I would go with a turkey breast. Neat, easy still turkey without the leftovers.

We do the same thing.. EVERYONE in my family HATES turkey (except I LOVE Turkey legs ;)) So we always have spiral cut ham or something like that. It's your choice, and keep in mind that there is no rule book stating that you HAVE to have turkey on Thanksgiving . (although the ppl from Butterball might tell you otherwise ;))

Nothing wrong with chicken. If it wasn't for my DH and BIL turkey lovers, we would probably have chicken too.

Nothing wrong with chicken at all!!!!! Ha! Buy it even easier!
Since you are leaving for WDW, I don't blame you. The only reason for the turkey is the LEFTOVERS anyway. I like it as leftovers and would rather eat the sides on Thanksgiving too.

I don't like turkey breast, we are dark meat lovers here.

I don't see a problem with it. If you want turkey, make you a little turkey breast, and have chicken or ham or something for everyone who doesn't want turkey.

:cool1: I don't see anything wrong with that.....my aunt makes baked beans every year and I wonder why?????? ??

I too am more interested in all the sides!
Have what makes you happy.
I have a friend whose family always has Thanksgiving lasagna. :confused3

This would be my choice also. But then I love turkey!

Chicken sounds great! I might do that too! I have friends who dont like turkey. Every Thanksgiving they make home made ravioli! :goodvibes

Seems perfectly fine to me. Besides, as someone else said, it's the sides that count. Also, just being able to be with all that family is the most important part of all. :goodvibes

I think your grandma rocks!! Way to be practical!

We usually have a total of 6 at our house for Thanksgiving. Two do not eat turkey. I still buy a turkey because there are 4 of us that like it and I am one of them. You can easily get a small turkey at the store if you want and have a little for leftovers. Sorry but I cannot see having Thanksgiving without a turkey. Now if no one liked it that would be different.

We do baked chicken if not a bunch over for T-day. Also, my Granny puts cut up chicken on top of her dressing when she bakes it. It is so easy and so good.

Do what you want. Have fun.

The rule in my house is: If you want something other than what I am serving, bring it.

Have fun at WDW. I am so, so jealous.

You can roast your own chicken, too, if you want and have the oven space. I like to put mine breast side down on a bed of chopped celery, carrots, and onion. You can elevate the chicken on a rack inserted in your roasting pan, if you want. I slather my chicken with butter, and salt and pepper it as well, sometimes I add chopped herbs to the butter before I rub the bird with it. Another lower cal option is to squeeze lemon over the bird and then in the cavities. It is really, really yummy. You won't miss the turkey!

Thnaks guys for your input! I think we're going with the chicken and maybe save the turkey for Christmas dinner or something. Really as long as I get my potatoes, stuffing and pie I don't care what else is served. :goodvibes
