Aggravated with Candelight policy

I am soooo mad! I wanted to take one of my hospice nurse volunteers to the Candlelight for her Christmas present. I went to Guest Relations to ask the policy about someone NOT eating and what the charge would be. I'm on a feeding pump and can no longer swallow/eat. I was told I couldn't do the package, and that gee...wheelchair people get to sit up front anyway, so I could make a P.S. for one person at a restaurant and then we could wait in the general line. I'd wanted to avoid that line as I've seen many w/c's in it and not all get in, plus I don't feel up to waiting in a line for an hour. Arghhhh! I told Guest Relations ( who was speaking to someone in "dining") that I'd be glad to pay half the charge, but that I didn't think it was fair to pay full price for a meal I can't eat. They said that wasn't possible. Arghhhh! Sorry, just needed to vent. ---Kathy

Here's some pixie dust and a hope that someone out there in Guest Relations land realizes that this just is not fair. I think it's a very nice thing that you want to do and they should be trying to help you create some magic of your own for your Hospice volunteer.

Thanks Sue --Im not going to "fight" this though as I don't have the energy for it. I told them I didn't expect to do this for free and that I'd be willing to pay half-price, sort of an entertainment fee minus the meal, but they weren't willing. I wonder if the same applies to the Hoop-de-Doo and the Luau? I'd not be willing to pay full price for those either, but again, would pay half just to see the show. ---Kathy

That is absolutely ridiculous. They could charge you a child's price or even just an entertainment fee. After all you can't eat. I would mention it to the people at Special Needs. I am sure you are not the only one this affects. I know some of my kids have the same thing and it would not be right if their families can't do the package just because they can't eat.
Something I object to is the fact they charge for drinks but the dessert is included. Well a diabetic dessert isn't and I can't eat nutrasweet anyway so even if it is I lose.
Btw I was up near you this weekend. Just got back from Leesburg. I was beautiful there.

Have you tried special reservations? They may be able to assist you. At least they have people who understand problems and can point you to the right direction.
Another option would be go through the WDW main switchboard and call Brad Rex; he is the VP of Epcot Operations -- you might not get him directly but one of his staff and they can easily make policy exceptions

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm just not up to "fighting" for this. I cannot physically hold a phone and speak only with a computer that speaks for me, so conversations are difficult-- nearly impossible via phone even with someone helping me. I just was in shock that they can't modify things to accomodate someone like me. Lisa- I agree with you about the dessert thing too- surely they could let you have a drink vs. dessert if you can't eat one. The CP package has been changed over the past few years anyway. When I went with my daughters two years ago, we got a lanyard and pin, and it was all inclusive. Then they went to a name tag, charging for the drink. This year I think you're also charged extra for tax. It was so easy to buy the vouchers for someone as then they had nothing else to deal with- now it's "pay extra for drink and tax"....sigh. I do wonder what the policy is for the two dinner shows on property- surely they've had to address this issue before. ---Kathy

We are planning a trip this year and hoping to do the candelight processional. My DS10 is completely tube fed. So if we want to do the dinner package, would we have to pay a full adult price for him? Is there a way to just pay an "entertainment charge"? We tried to do this for the Hoop Dee Doo, but had to pay full price.

When I booked our vacation, I told the CM that my son would not be able to eat meals there, he has a very restricted diet. Since our deal included dining, they would not let us pay for the adults and not have dining on my son's part. It's all or nothing. The same goes for any dinner shows.

So sorry for your frustration, never let anyone steal your joy!

Since this is a very old thread that got popped up, I am going to close it.

I want to recent people who posted on it to know they didn't do anything wrong - old threads like this pop up on the bottom of the page all the time and people post on them thinking they are new.
