Will my kids enjoy and be able to have fun at US. I've heard from many people here on the board that my kids won't because of there age. US is only for teens and older???? My kids go on everything in WDW except for TOT (size issue only). We are planning on heading there in Dec 2007 for x-mas for a change over WDW. Thanks inadvance for the help

There are a few posts on this board about Universal for kids with some great advice. Browse around here for a bit and then if you have any more specific questions, fire away!!! If your kids like everything at Disney, they will love Universal. Are they boys or girls?

Boys and girl. But my daughter is a tom boy, no concerns with her at all. The youngest one is a dare devil and the oldest will hesitate and then we'll say oh go on and he'll do it but only once. I'll keep lerking on the board in this section more and learn more info on the ages of the kids. Thanks

The ones who say that have never been LOL. I don't know of any teens who are into Barney or Dr Seuss.

IMHO there is more at US/IOA for kids then there is for teens.

I'll start with IOA
Seuss Landing is geared toward preschool-early ele age
Lost contienent.... Sure there is DD (which your 11 might enjoy) but there is also Flying Unicorn (which is the best kiddie coaster around IMHO), Psedeon's Furry and the Sinbad Show.

Jurrasic Park
JPRA water/drop ride. Similar to Splash M. Drop is probably less intense. Dinosaur theming is intense, but not as intense as Dinosaur at SK.

Camp Jurrasic..... My DD can spend hrs there. It is a huge interactive playground. Lots of slides, water features and one ride ptedron fliers.

JP discovery center..... Indoor hands-on dinosaur themed ctivities

ToonLagoon... Water rides

Me ship the olive.... great interactive playarea
Ripsaw Falls.... wate drop ride. Fun theming. fairly intense drop.
Bilerat Barges.... Water raft ride.

Marvel Island...
Spiderman.... It's hard to explain spiderman. It's park simulator, part 3-d movie, part flat track ride. The ride vehicle etc is similar to Dinosaur at AK. DD has been riding it since she was 3 1/2. It is pretty intense, but I've seen many little ones having a great time. I think they get so wrapped up in the spiderman theme that they don't get scared.
Dr doom.... Drop ride. Might interest your oldest 1 (or middle one if tall enough). I don't do rides like this, but my teenager loves it and my 9 yr old can't wait to be tall enough.

Hulk... IMHO one of the best coasters in existance. Great first inverted coaster if your 11 yr old is up to try it.

My kids go on everything in WDW except for TOT (size issue only).
My DD rode TOT when she was 4 1/2. It actually has a fairly low hight limit (40in I think). Don't rule it out on your next WDW trip.

I'll post later about US.

We went to Universal last year when my kids were 8, 6, 3 and almost 1. We had such a great time, that we are headed back next month. Honestly, my kids enjoyed Disney when we went, but we all agreed that Universal was more fun and a better value. You'll have a wonderful time!

One thing I would suggest, is to watch some of the Universal movies before you go, so that your kids will understand those rides better: ET, Back to the Future, Men and Black, etc. This really helped my kids get into it more.

Have fun!

I went in sept with my 4 children 9, 8, 7 & 6 and they had a blast!! It was our first time and they cant wait to go back! I was a little leery at first being by myself ( husband couldnt take off work) and my oldest had a broken foot and we were spending 1 week there but it turned out to be one of the best vacations!!
They grew up being "Disney kids" ( Disney world & Disney cruise at least once a year if not twice a year ) and 3 of them like Universal much better than Disney :cool1: Mom did to ;)

We went this past November when my kids were 10,8 & 5. We could not have enjoyed it more...just not possible. It is so much fun.

My little girl (5) was a bit more timid than I thought she would be. She never did get on the Jurassic Park river ride and I KNOW she would have loved it but we're a 'no pressure' kind of family, lol. So while I rode with the boys my husband would take her to the "Camp Jurassic"...I think she & my 8 year old could have spent three hours there, seriously.

She also chickened out of the Mummy (and to tell you the truth, knowing her, it would have been too much for her)....but again, while my husband & I took turns riding the wild rides w/the boys there was still something just as fun for her to do with the other parent. She adored E.T., M.I.B, the Jimmy Neutron ride, the Animal Planet show at Universal. And at IOA she had a great time on Spiderman, the Flying Unicorn, everything in Suess Landing, and the shows....everything is very well done!

My older two (both boys) rode & loved everything. My 10 year old rode the coasters but my 8 y.o. was just an inch or so too short....all the better to plan another trip, lol. :thumbsup2

The shows were great fun, the theming & atmosphere was amazing and I just can't wait to go back.

I really don't know if we'll do Disney again for a very long time. Universal spoiled us with short lines (and we were not staying onsite, just went at a GREAT time).....having City Walk right there with fun, yummy restaurants was just the icing on the cake. And as a family of five on a budget, we feel we received MUCH more for our money with our week spent at Universal compared to our week the year before at Disney.

I agree 100% with the poster who said check out the Universal Orlando website. Let your kids get a preview of the rides and see what they say!

We went this past October for the first time with DS3 and DS4. Having heard the same rumors about it being for older kids, we were a little worried about going. They absolutely loved it. There was so much for them to do. Plus since there are only two parks, you don't feel as rushed. We were able to take our time and enjoy everything. One tip: Get there early. You can do so much before the crowds get there at 11:00.

It's really hard to say. Everyone's kids are different. You're best off giving it a shot and see. They are offering a good deal on the tickets on the Universal website right now....$85 for a 7 day pass which gets you into both parks. Give it a shot and see. My family (teenagers now) likes Universal and enjoys going there. However, we are able to do the rides that we like at both parks in one day. We'd rather spend multi days at Disney. There are others who could spend a week at Universal/IOA.
