How strict are DCL with age restrictions on port adventures? My DS (9yrs) is REALLY keen to hike Mt Vesuvius but age is 10yrs & up. My DS is an active kid and fit.

Very strict the line is drawn and no bending it on age.

You will need to find a local private operator to do this for you.

As well as being fit I would guess DCL considers maturity now each child is dfferent but that could be a dangerous place.

The computer system will not let you book an excursion for someone who does not meet the age requirement. DCL has each passenger's DOB so they know exactly how old everyone is and they are 100% strict on the requirements.

System won't let you book for a person not within the age limits. Find a private operator. We took our 7 yr old to the top of Guadalupe Peak in Texas (look it up) he did it. I'm sure your son will make the hike u want to do. Have fun!!

Thanks! My next question is - can anyone recommend or have they used a private tour operator for Mt Vesuvius?

We used Context travel for Pompeii, Herculium and the museum. HIGHLY recommend them. We actually used this company throughout Italy and will use them again in Germany. FANTASTIC customer service.
