Age Restricted Rides

We are traveling to Disney Parks December 2nd - 8th with my 7 and 2 year old. My son is actually turning 3 on the 10th while on the cruise. He is just slightly over 40" tall so we were not concerned with him on rides until we noticed some have AGE restrictions. I've never had my child's age checked at Disney but then again I've never gone on say Barnstormer or Big Thunder with a child under 3. Just how strict is Disney with this? I cannot imagine this being a safety factor as he meets the height requirements. I'm not trying to "sneak" on to anything, I'd rather just start preparing him now if they're not going to allow him on. He's quite the adventurous one and has already been on a roller coaster at our local amusement park. Please no negative parent attacks, I'm genuinely interested on why the age restriction exists. Thanks!

To my knowledge, there are only age restrictions that govern when kids can ride alone without an adult, not age restrictions to actually ride a ride. It is height based where applicable.

I think this is true. The only instances I can think of where age factors in is the child has to be at least 7 years old to ride alone or in the single rider lane (like Test Track)?

While not listed on the official Disney website, several sites including WDWMagic and Best of Orlando have Age Restrictions listed. Perhaps I should should just stick to the official documentation. Maybe they are outdated?

Like others have said, I think it is only when it comes to riding alone. This summer they questioned us on Buzz Lightyear when my DDs were getting in their own cart - they are tiny, but they meet the age requirements of riding alone. Same thing on another trip when they were younger and I was letting them ride roller coasters with my stepson, who was 20 at the time but they didn't think he was over 16.

Disney will be quite strict on each of these, due to liability, insurance etc. There are only a few rides that have specified restrictions in relation to age. For example Tomorrowland Speedway in the Magic Kingdom requires anyone under the age of 7 to be riding with someone over the age of 14. They are incorrect unless it's referring to riding alone before age 7 or riding with another child before age 14, and under 7

This applies to every ride on property
The other age restrictions on that list are wrong. Now, it is likely pretty rare for someone to be over 3 and reach the height requirement but if they do, they can ride.

The link I attached may just be guides.
This is officially from the Disney World website for the Barnstormer
-Must be 35in or more
-States it is for preschoolers and kids
-Supervise children at all times. Children under age 7 years must be accompanied by a person age 14 years or older.

It does not mention any minimum age restrictions of who may ride this, thus by Disney's terms a child of any age can ride this ride however they must meet the height restrictions. So if he meets the height restrictions then yes he will be, as per what Disney states. Sorry if I am sounding a little vague. I am also not 100% sure and don't want to misguide you.

As someone who has taken a 2 year old on Barnstormer, trust me, there is no age restriction. Just had to check her at the height stick thing and she was good to go.

The bottom line, there are NO age requirements for a child to ride with their parents (or other adult) for any ride at Disney.
There are age requirements for a child to ride alone (must be 7+)
There are age requirements for a child to ride with another child (oldest child must be 14+ if the youngest is 6 or younger)
That's all.
No other age requirements
All other limitations are height based

I think you're confused.
The age restriction only comes into play if the child will be riding ALONE.
In that case they must be 7+ or be riding with someone age 14+.
A long as the child is riding with someone 14+ the rides don't have restrictions.
You're 2 year old will be able to ride anything they are tall enough for as long as you're going with them.

What you are reading from a 3rd party is most likely their personal recommendations of best starting age to take a child on a certain attraction.

First paragraph, thankfully nope. They only have height requirements. No age requirements.

Second paragraph, ALL rides have the requirement that a child under 7 rides with someone 14 and older.

There is a ride requirement of age 3 years old to ride larger rides. It’s posted on Disney’s page. Also, a child must be at least 54” to ride by themselves. If they’re not 54” no matter what the Height is requirement is, they must have a person over the age of 14 and 54” to ride with them.
