Does anyone know what the age requirement for taking out a boat at BCV is. I am trying to convince my 15 year old nephew (he will be 16 years old when we go) that he is going to have fun when we go on our family trip. I have told him about DQ and also told him that we our going to get on a few family plans at the marina so he can take a water mouse out when ever he wants. After I told him that I was hoping that they would let a 16 year old take one out when ever he wants after we have signed up for the plan. Anyone know what the minimum age is? Thanks.

Have no fear. You only have to be 12 to drive a water mouse. :D
He will have a great time. My three DS's love taking out the water mice. You might want to consider getting them at the VWL though since the lake is so much bigger.

Terry - According to MinnieMe2's post in this thread, 16 year olds are allowed to take out the boats. The minimun age may be even lower. If I happen to see any other threads on this, I'll post the link in a subsequent post.

The minimum age requirement for the watermice is 12. My DD who is 13 just took one out in March. A little advice on the watermice, the ones at the YC/BC marina and DTD are very slow. We like to go over to any resort on Bay Lake or Seven Seas Lagoon (these are the MK resorts - GF, Poly, Contemp, WL, & FW) because these boats are a lot faster and there is plenty of room to boat around.;) Tell him he will have a great time. We love the watermice and my DD really enjoyed her first time driving one.

Thank you sooooo much everyone! This board is so great, there is not a question that someone can't answer. I will throw out the suggestion to go to one of the MK resorts for the boats since they go faster, its just that its so much more convienant to go right outside our own resort for the kids. We won't have a car. Is there one of the MK resorts that is easier or more convienant to rent from then the others? I guess we could have the kids take the bus to MK and then a boat or monorail over to one of the resorts or does anyone have a different idea?

Could you please let me know what the marina plan is?

I have never heard of that.

Terry,

I understand the car problem. We usually stay at BWV and it would be so much eaiser to use the boats at the marina. Because we do so much at the other resorts we usually drive or have a car while we are there. I don't know what we would do without one. I think your idea of taking a bus to the MK and then the monorail or a boat to one of the hotels is the only thing I can come up with also.

I am not sure if these would work (maybe someone else on the boards has some imput) but I would check these two things out.
First, if I remember correctly there may be buses that go to FW. This may be harder to do than your idea because you might have to make a transfer somewhere and I think the walk from the bus drop-off to the marina is pretty long. Second, I know for people who play golf they can take a taxi (free of charge) to the golf courses and back. We have always had a car, so I have never asked if you could also do this if you were going to another hotel. I would say probably not, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

One last thing, the boats at the YC/BC marina are still fun and you will see plenty of people in them. We just enjoy the other ones better. Hope some of this helps and is not to confusing.:)

If you don't have a car with you, take the bus to MK or Downtown Disney. then you can get other transportation to Cont, GF, Poly, etc. (Buses from DD, and boats or monorail from MK)

mitcam.... The marinas have a boat plan. I don't remember the exact details, but I think it was something like for a family of 5, you can have unlimited use for the length of your stay of the water mice and pantoon boats for $199.00. I think some of the marinas also include other boats as well. It you are doing a long stay and plan on using the boats a lot, it is a good deal. There is some discrepency as to weather the family of 5 includes just drivers or all passengers. I would think it would be drivers, but unsure.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it is 5 members/family, can use the boats or bikes (i.e. if there are 5 watermice available, all five of you can use them at the same time). I think you have to give the names of the users when you sign up for the program. Do the pontoons hold more than five?...There may also be a weight limit for the pontoons.

In addition to the age requirement of 12 years old, there is a height requirement, but I don't know off-hand what it is. Anyone else know?
