I was doing some random internet searching and found the following website. http://academic.udayton.edu/paulvanderburgh/weight_age_grading_calculator.htm . I would put this into the anything to get published but interesting to look at catagory. To researchers at the University of of Dayton attempted to quantify the effect age and weight had on race times. They do this by statistically adjusting your race time to that of a 25 year old 110lb female or 143lb male. So for example, a 318lb, 41 year old male (me) who completed a 3:28:00 half marathon is as impressive a feat as a 25 year old, 143 lb male running a 2:14:49 Half Marathon. Like I said above, I'm not sure how much validity I put in this but it is fun to look at.

I did it - not sure about being factual either but...I love it!

Thanks for this bit of humor & encouragement today! :goodvibes

I put in my best time for a half (3:10), with age (65), and weight (to much), sex (F), and it computed out to less than 2 hours!

Well, that was fun. I could, if younger and lighter, run a 1:30 half!
Good for a laugh!:thumbsup2

It told me I should run faster!

I think they should do one for height - if I were 6ft5 I would be much faster than my tiny 5ft2 self!

That was fun! Thanks.:goodvibes If I were younger I could do a 15K in 1hr 30 minutes, instead of the 2hrs 15 minutes it took me to WALK it. :goodvibes

I've seen the age grades calculation before--even active.com includes it in their race results--but I'd never seen the wieght aspect.

So my best output was 1:32:42 for a 1/2 marathon (about the time it took me to run the Minnie 15k!)

I put in a time of 2:11:22 for a half and it gave me back a time of 1:53:28. Give me a couple more races and I'll get there ;)

I like the table in a Runners World UK article that references the Vanderburgh article. I can't control my age but seeing the speed that can be gained through lost weight is motivation for me. (1kg equals 2.2 lbs)

That was fun! Too bad I'll never see 25 years old or 110 lbs again! If I did, I would have a great race time.

:cool1:
