Has anyone done afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian? If so, should we skip lunch to save room for dinner?

Thanks!

I'd like to hear about the Afternoon Tea

I wanted to ask DH but didn't know if men did the Afternoon Tea (DH is a Policeman & fufu stuff) is NOT his cup of TEA. So, didn't know how this Afternoon Tea was classified. :goofy: ::MinnieMo

Hi, My DD and I usually do the "GRAND TEA",it is VERY filling,so for us it is instead of lunch. And,YES -men do tea also. In fact if you check out the menu there is a "Gentlemens Tea". I have to say I enjoy the finger sandwiches and the pastries, but the SCONES are to DIE FOR!! (THEY ARE SERVED WITH real ENGLISH CREAM!) You can also have Fresh Brewed ice tea instead of hot tea.MY DD always gets the iced -raspberry which is EXCELLENT! This is such a lovely relaxing afternoon -I would recommend to give it a try! Joan - what do you usually order and how much does it cost. I am considering taking my daughter who will be 9 and my son who will be 6 (my other daughter who is 2 and my husband will probably head back to our room for some shut eye!). I know that they are each $8.50 but how much is it for me? Thanks for the help!

If you order the Grand Tea ($24.50/guest), or the Buckingham Palace (same as the Grand Tea, minus the sparkling wine, $17.50/guest), it could definitely replace a meal for you. However, if you just want something more like a mid-afternoon snack, then you can order things ala carte. Hubby and I did this - he ordered the tea sandwiches, and I ordered strawberries and cream, and we shared. Here's a link to the full menu:

I'd love to try this, but can't drink tea. Is there another drink that I could order? No alcohol, either.

Thanks.

They have coffee, soft drinks, juices, water. If they don't have something you'd like, just ask and you never know. My DH wanted a beer(I kinda made him go with us) and our server got one for him from another part of the resort.

:goodvibes Thanks ! I'll pass that on

My husband did ask what they offered, so hopefully he'll go.

Thanks for the info ! :wave2:

My husband and I go for tea every year. The sandwiches, scones and pastries are wonderful. Plus it is really peaceful and calm. A great break from the hustle and bustle. There are always other men there. I wouldn't call my hubby a girlie man either. Plus the atmosphere in the GF lobby afterwards, including the band that plays upstairs is entertaining.

I would like to try the tea but what are tea sandwiches? Someone mentioned that there are a lot of men there but what about boys? I have 2 boys who will be 11 and 9 during our next visit. My older son loves tea (regular lipton tea with sugar and milk) will the boys like it or is it too girly for them? also about how long does it take from start to finish?

TIA,

Loralie

Disnyfanatic, I would definitely recommend ADRs for tea - I think it fills up pretty good, and I've heard of people without them being turned away.

Loralie, it is definitely on the girly side, but I did see some boys there with their families. Maybe if you just don't talk about it being girly he won't care. As far as how long it takes, we were there about an hour, but if you don't order the Grand Tea or the Buckingham Palace (which come out in courses), it might not take quite as long. The service is obviously meant to be at a leisurely pace, which makes it nice and relaxing.
