Has anyone done the tea at Palo? What do they serve? Is there a cost? When is it offered? Would you do it again?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Louise

Let's see, I know this wont be in order but you get leaf tea, finger sandwiches, scones, eclairs, parfaits, oh & I know there was something else. I had to pass on the parfait :( and was really too full to enjoy dinner that night.

It was $5 a person. I enjoyed it, DH was "so-so" about it. It was fun to experience once. I probably wouldn't do it again, esp. with DH.

My friend and I (and her husband - mine found something else to do) did the tea on the 8/14/04 cruise. We really enjoyed it. There were cucumber sandwiches and the other sandwich had something with shrimp (I can't eat shrimp so they took them away).

The tea was very good (I'm not adventureous so I got something simple). The sweets were incredibly good.

I would do it again. We also did the brunch and that buffet was unbelieveable. There were three displays. One was breads, pastry, rolls, muffins, etc. Another was seafood - the shrimp was disappearing as soon as it was put out - but they kept refilling. There were also more salads and other items than I can name on this table. The third table was deserts.

A waitress takes orders for hot dishes (pancakes, eggs benedict, and a few others - also a beef dish). My husband was disappointed - he's a sausage, bacon, scrapple man and none of this was available.

On a previous trip we did dinner at Palo's but decided that wasn't any better than what we had in the other restaurants.

Whatever you decide, you won't go hungry. Have a wonderful trip.

Can I assume that only adults are allowed at the tea? Is it something you have to reserve when you get to the ship? It's probably only offered on sea days, right?

Yes, you can make a reservation for tea with the other Palo resies. I forgot that they started charging for the tea. It was free back in November, but would still be worth it IMO. Everything at Palo is for adults only. It is only on sea days & space is limited since they don't open all the tables for tea.

My husband and I enjoyed afternoon tea in Palo. The view was fantastic, the fare light and average in presentation, and the dress casual. I love going to tea houses near my home, and had to compare experiences. I loved the Practically Perfect Tea with Mary Poppins at Disneyland, but I heard they discontinued that. The food was actually better at Disneyland than on the ship.
My husband enjoyed the tea selections in Palo's! The server took great pains to explain each and every tea offered. Next summer I am sure I will try Tea again with some of my friends joining us on the West Coast Cruise! I would choose the Brunch over the Tea though if I had to.

Hmmm..for some reason I was thinking the tea was free..but the brunch was $5pp and dinner $10pp. When did they change it to charge for the Tea?

The tea we went to, if I remember right, was our first visit to Palo. The view was (is!) amazing, and that made what would otherwise have been "just a tea" something very special. It was also my first experience with clotted cream--yum! We got a visit from Wendy (Peter Pan's) and that made it a little more magical too.

When we made our Palo dinner reservations I put in a request for brunch and tea. We were called during the week when times opened up and were able to go to have every Palo experience possible! I highly recommend it! (check my trip report below for more detail)

I had no idea that any of the characters visited Palo's!! Now I read that Wendy did? Well now I certainly will keep my eyes open for a glimpse of Mary Poppins the next time I have a tea cup in my hand while overlooking the ocean on the Magic. I would have loved to have seen Wendy! Who am I kidding....I would be thrilled to see any of the characters at any time anywhere. LOL

Tea was $5pp, brunch and dinner were each $10 pp. You can sign up for all three at once. We had no trouble getting them on our 7 day in February.

The view out the windows at brunch and high tea was awesome. The brunch was our favorite of the three. Though we did really, really like the chocolate souffle!

I'm almost afraid to ask this but what in the world is scrapple?? Is that a food??

I had an awesome Pasta dish at brunch in Palo and my friend had a fish dish. They also have pizza that is thin crispy crust and great! I really don't do breakfast food so I was glad that they had a full selection of lunch items too!

::yes::

It'a a type of breakfast meat. My family eats it with grits. All of the New Yorkers I know that eat it or have any idea what it is, have southern roots.(Both of my parents grew up in South Carolina)

Scrapple is one of those dreaded "combination" meats made up of the less savory parts of hogs. It isn't bad fried, with catsup. My parents were born and brought up in Maryland and they eat it, but Maryland is sometimes considered south. It could also be a German food as Baltimore had a large population of German immigrants.

I'm originally from Philadelphia too, with relatives in the Pocono Mountains. We look forward to getting it every time we visit back East, now that we live in the Las Vegas area.

I'm going to bypass the scrapple discussion and head back to afternoon tea... :teeth:

I was wondering if anyone here has tried the afternoon tea experience at the Grand Floridian? How does Palo tea compare in your opinion?

My hubby and I enjoy tea at the GF so much that we've made it a tradition. We are planning on trying the Palo tea next month on our cruise and are really looking forward to it. It sounds yummy, especially those eclairs.
