Afternoon rest breaks question

I am wondering about the logistics of taking an afternoon rest/break from the parks. I love the idea of going back to the room or pool for a few hours after touring in the morning. But it seems that if the parks close at 7:00pm or so ( we are going in May), can you really get back to the parks in time to go on any rides, etc.

We will be staying at the Polynesian. How would this work? Any suggestions?

When we stayed at the Polynesian, we would hit a park in the AM, go to the pool, then hit another in the afternoon. You could go to AK or Disney Studios in the morning, head back to the Polynesian about noon and take a short rest or swim break. Then take the monorail over to the MK in time for the afternoon parade and the rest of the day.

Or do the MK in the morning, take a pool or nap break about noon, then monorail over to Epcot for the evening. Epcot never closes before 9PM.

well now breaks in the afternoon, do it all the time and we stay at FW cabins. We get an early start break about 1 to 3 and then head back to the parks. if you have UPH tickets you dont even have to do the same park. example We go to AK in the am when the animals seem to be up and about and then may head over to MK in the eve etc..... since you are staying at the poly the monorail makes it easy for u to get to Epcot and MK that dip in the pool sure is refreshing and for us makes the evenings more relaxed and enjoyable.

Sure you can... But you need to be at the parks for Opening... that means be at the gate at least 10 minutes before they open.

Let's say the park opens for general guests at 9:00am, you take advantage of Early Magic Hour and go to the park that opens at 8:00am that day.
You do all the touring until 11:30a-12:00p, then grab a Quick Lunch at a counter service restaurant and go back to the hotel. Usually you will be back by 1:30p. Rest, Swim until 3:30p and then head back to the parks. You will need to decide what you want to do about dinner... with a 7pm closing time, you may want to grab a snack in the park and eat a late dinner after the park closes.

As with all things, YMMV, but this is how I do it. :D

We used to be break every day people. On our last two trips we had a revelation that this was just too much for our family. Now we will spend about 3/4 day at a park (9- 2 or 3ish) and leave!!! Pool, relaxing dinner, that's it. Or, just relax by the pool all day and go late for night time activities. If you want to break, you will have to around noon.

I wondered if this would be worth it too. I mean, by the time you get transpo, get to the resort, change clothes to go to pool, swim, get dressed again, and catch transpo to a park, how much time will be left if the park closes early? I think we'll just take a nice long leisurely lunch instead to "rest", and maybe return from the park early to swim.

I sincerely hope there are e-nights in May. I'd hate for the MK to close at 7:00 every night we are there (we will only be there during the weekdays) I love walking around at night and seeing the pretty lights.

Mid-day breaks have never worked for us. We usually take a later break around 4 and gets showers and let DH and the kids rest or nap while I freshen my hair and makeup for dinner. We usually eat a sit-down dinner around 7:00 and it's never made sense logistically for us to leave the park at in the early to mid-afternoon. By the time we got back to the park after the break, it would be almost time to head back for dinner! Also, the time seems to fly by at the parks and we're are usually not ready to leave until 4 or so anyway.

I think it depends on how everyone is feeling that day. We always get to the parks 30 minutes prior to opening opening (no EE), and have a sit-down park lunch at 11:45 or noon. Then, after lunch, we either decide to stay for a couple more hours, or to return to the resort.

Last year, on the MGM and AK days it was so hot and crowded we wanted to leave immediately after lunch for a swim and rest at AKL. But on the Epcot and MK days, we had the energy and crowd and weather conditions to stay for a few more hours.

Have fun whatever you decide!
