Absolutely!:thumbsup2 We walk back for breaks every time! We don't always swim, but we do take breaks. And we have stayed at HOJO's five times within the past year! Great hotel and well worth the (short) extra walk!:thumbsup2

Thank you for the reply! We have three little ones 9,7, and 1. The one year old will be in a stroller (of course!) I'm hoping that the 9 an 7 year old can do the walk :)

Definitely. We took a break every day.

Seriously, once you get out to Harbor, the difference in walking time as compared to, say, BWPPI, is like 4 minutes. It looks far, especially at night when you're tired, but it's not.

We were there for 3 days last summer. The 1st day we didn't take a break and were all tired and cranky by 6pm. The other 2 days we went back to HOJOs for breaks. The first day of the break, all 5 of us were supposed to just have quiet time on our beds for 15 minutes, and we all fell asleep. lol. But then we got up to use the pool. The 3rd day we swam. ;)

Kauinohea,
I don't know how big your kids are, but when I took my son to WDW and he was 9 at the time, we rented a stroller for him. (When he wasn't using it, we threw our stuff in it. He rode in it most of the time.) He's pretty small for his age, even now although he's an adult. I think it depends on the kid, and you would know yours better than anyone. I just think that for small kids, every single step we take is multiplied by 3 for them, so I imagine that they are probably 3times more tired than we adults are at the end of the night. If worst comes to worse and they are too pooped to make it, you can always pay for the ART passes at the Hojo front desk for the rest of the stay. The 1 year old would be free and they allow you to pack up the stroller and bring it on board.

ETA: my son's friend also rode in the stroller with him and they were both 9&10 at the time, but small for their ages... We go o Hojo's every year, and honestly have never once used the pool. We're always at the park.

DSF-
Thank you for the pointers. I wish I could get over the nervousness of the walk to HOJO. I still have reservations at both HOJO and BWPPI...HOJO for the excellent reviews and BWPPI for the location.

No reason to be nervous! It's an easy walk. We have stayed at HOJO 4 times in the last year and a half and have taken a break every single day. We usually go back to rest and play at the Pirates cove. Our breaks seem to be long but we need them (around 3 and half hours sometimes 4).

Have fun!

I really understand your hesitation about the walk to HOJO. Last October, we stayed at the Fairfield Inn and took a break in the afternoon each day. By the second day, my feet and legs were so tired, and we were closer than HOJO. I'm also a lot older than you (fiftyish) so I'm sure you'll have an easier time than I did. We thought about staying at HOJO this October because everyone here really likes it, but decided against it because even though it's only the next hotel on the block, I don't think I could do the extra distance, so we booked Fairfield Inn again.

We did every day- except the last day. Grilled hamburgers on the balcony ;-) I even went and soaked my feet in the jacuzzi for a bit one day.

We did! We took an afternoon break & walked back to the HoJo every day & the kids did just fine. :) My son was 9 & my daughter was 7 at the time (last October). They didn't complain because they were so looking forward to getting to play at Pirates Cove!!! :thumbsup2

Thank you for the replies! It makes me feel much better about the walk. I think that I can finally be excited about our reservations for the kids suite in July!

We did that daily as well. Kids were almost 12, and 6. Nooo problem at all for them.

I am sitting here laughing at myself - if we go back and take breaks (kids 6,4,3) then I can get more cute shirts for them to wear when we go back in the eve! I am addicted to the Creative Dis boards and all the iron-on shirts!!

We are at HoJos right now on an afternoon break :) In fact we just got back up to our room after sitting in the sun by Castaway Cove. The kids there were LOVING it!!!!!! It is always soemwhat tiring to walk out and back to the hotel, but the consequences of not taking a break are much worse IMO. :upsidedow

Glad your having such a nice time at HOJOs! Can't wait to get there in July!
Do you know if the kids suites are ready yet?

I'm pretty sure the ART stops at HOJO, so you could always take it to or from the parks if everybody is tired. Just another option to walking :).

Sooooo true!!!!
Enjoy the rest of your trip!

I know this thread is a couple of months old, but wanted to add my opinion. We stayed at HoJo's last summer. We did the afternoon break thing. The walk was fine for hubby and I, and we had my 2 yr old in a stroller. But my 8 and 5 year old had a hard time with the walk 4 times a day and then all the park walking. We would walk past all those hotels in the evening, and wished we were closer.

So, as much as I'd love to go back to HoJo's, this summer I have booked at BWPPI so I don't have to listen to my kids whine about the walk!

If you do this, be sure to ask that morning about breaks. They shut the ART down for a couple of hours each afternoon unless it's crazy busy. The hours aren't on a schedule anywhere. Don't count on the ART to be waiting for you if you want a midday break.

Because of this, we never took a break last time. We probably won't this time, either. My boys are happy to swim after we get back to the room at night.

From what I understand, the play area will be open late, so if your kiddos can stay up later, this is an option. One aside...man, it was cold at night there! Be sure to be ready to wrap the kids up and run once you're out of the pool/water!
