Just want to confirm what's already running through my head.

We're scheduled for a three-day trip in early August, and plan on leaving the park in the middle of the day for lunch and rest at our offsite hotel. When we return in the late afternoon/evening, can we expect to run through the same entry protocol (no preference given to guests re-entering the park)?

Correct. The entry procedure is the same every time, with one minor exception. The first time you, as an adult, use your pass, you have to show ID.

Make sure you get a hand stamp before you leave, it shows you've previously been in the park that day. Also make sure you have your ID with you every time you enter. If for some reason your picture doesn't come up when they scan your ticket (happens often) they will want to see ID from at least one adult in your party.

Mostly. When you leave they will stamp your left hand. When you come back they will use a little light to see the stamp as well as scan your ticket again. These stamps are for if the park is near capacity, if you've been there earlier in the day and have a stamp they let you back in. So in that respect, yes, there's a preference to guests reentering. In all my trips I've only ever seen them stop letting people in once but I ALWAYS get my stamp just in case, lol.

To the PP our experience this trip was that they asked for our ID on our first use of the ticket, used the little hand held machine to snap a pic and link it to the tickets. After that at each entry they quick scanned the tickets with the same hand held and sent us on to scan our ticket. Never had to show ID again after the first time. I had read horror stories about this taking 20mins and them using ipods to do it but they must have it down now because it was all very quick and smooth. IMO didn't take any longer than it does to show ID.
