I just joined a gym!! :banana::banana:

I'm going after work today for my first class there - its from 6pm-7pm so I'll be going straight from work. My question is, for people who do this, what do you do about dinner? I don't want to eat really late, because thats not good, but I have to eat something. I was thinking just some fruit over yogert.

Thoughts?

TIA

How late would you be getting home after a work out?

Leftovers if it's not too late, byt you really need about 3 hours before bed time.

As long as you get in some healthy calories, the choice is whatever you can get. The yogurt/fruit would work for me.

Im hoping there will be better suggestions. I would love to know what our creative folks have come up with to conquer this.

i work pretty long hours and usually go the gym/run after work. i eat breakfest, a small snack, lunch, another snack, and the dinner when i get home at around 8:30 and go to bed around 11-11:30. is the perfect solution? probably not...but it's what works for me. working out in the morning is really difficult for me, esp in fall/winter because a) i have terrible morning allergies, so waking up and doing a hard workout is difficult when i can barely breathe b) i hate the cold c) i hate mornings d) i don't feel safe running in the dark by myself, and my running groups meet at night, not in the am

Think Protein! Within 30 minutes of ending your workout you should have a recovery meal. ideally 4:1 carb to protein. Your fruit/yogurt idea is not bad. Also think a small grilled chicken breast over a bed of lettuce. (hold the dressing)

If you work hard, you are not going to feel like you need to eat much. Trust me.

we have a smoothie king right next to our gym and actually get a 10% discount with gym membership. i stop by there and grab a smoothie on the way home and sometimes eat a snack when i get home if I am still hungry.

I go to the gym 1 of 2 choices. I either get up at 4:50AM and then eat a banana with a tablespoon of peanut butter. Then I get to the gym by 5:30AM and I'm back home at apx 6:20AM. (I work at home doing daycare and my first kid comes at 6:35AM. I shower after the first one comes and I get ready for the day while I wait for the others to come at 8AM). If I don't make in the morning I go after work. I make dinner at 5:00PM and feed the family. I get it cleaned up with my DH and then he gives them baths while I go to the gym at 6:30PM. I'm back home no later than 8PM. I get to bed around 10PM. I know I need 8 hrs of sleep but I run off 6-7hours. I'm sure as I get better about my work outs I'll get to bed sooner. I hate going to the gym from 5-6 because there is a TON of people there. I like smaller crowds. If I wait till 6:30 there is usually no more than 5-7 people there instead of 20-25. We live in a town of apx 13,000 so the gym probably isn't as full as other towns.

This is always a dilemma for me too. Sometimes I will cook a couple of healthy meals for the week on a Sunday and heat up a serving when I get home from the gym. I am somebody who doesn't mind eating the same thing several nights in a row, though. Also, crock pot cooking could put you ahead of the game. You can throw a meal into the crockpot in the morning and it's already for you when you get home. These have been my best solutions when I am able to follow through with them.

I love crockpot meals...I just wish I had more ideas. I usually toss a roast or steaks in with browning sauce, a little water, and turn it on med heat.

I go to the gym exclusively after work so I know your dilemma. I have protein powder and a shaker in my desk and just before I leave I have a protein shake. I hit the gym and then when I get home make dinner. I usually eat about 9 or 10.
