So our first day at Universal/IOA (2/15), the park will be closing at 6pm. We need something to fill our evening!! We have two kids, 7 and 10...who love good food/live entertainment....and don't want to be back in a hotel early on the first night of vacation! Ideally, a nice dinner in an entertaining environment. I've read all of the menus, we can find something we like at any of them....but I'm looking for something that can provide entertainment as well. I suspect we'll be ready to be back in our rooms by 9pm so that we can be up early for WWHP!!!
There are no Mardi Gras concerts while we are there, so that is not an option.
First question: The page for Mythos list their hours as "lunch". Do you think we can get a sitting around 6pm, or do they close the restaurants at the same time as the park? The place looks fun!
We are staying at Royal Pacific, so we can eat at the resort or somewhere at City Walk.....but what can we do for entertainment?!?! We aren't going all the way to Florida to go to a movie and we've already seen Blue Man Group.

Are there venues at City Walk that have live music around the dinner hours that will allow the kids (we would be out by 9pm at least)? Most of what I've seen on the website makes the music look after-hours and adult only....and we certainly aren't looking to take our kids clubbing! :rotfl2:

Does Royal Pacific have evening entertainment? The luau isn't going on during our stay there (Wed-Fri), and the restaurants aren't as appealing....but are there activities planned at the resort? I doubt we'll be up for an evening swim (brrrr).

How do you fill your evenings??
Thanks for any/all advice.....obviously this is our first trip to US/IOA!:yay:

There are often live bands playing outdoors at Citywalk. Margaritaville is always entertaining. Sometimes there are things going on at Hard Rock Live. Not sure if the new mini putts will be open by then since their opening just says February. There are things going on at the pools all day...not sure about the evening.

We just returned from a week at RPR with our kids aged 11 and 9.

I guess part of the question is what kind of music do the kids like? Mine are pretty well rounded liking everything from Justin Bieber (ugh) to Bob Marley, Jimmy Buffett and Billy Joel.

We did one night with them at Pat O'Briens at the Piano Bar area. Music begins at 5pm and you can request songs. At 8pm a second piano player is added and they have dueling pianos. The kids loved the interactive request process of writing a song on a cocktail napkin and handing it to the player...along with a dollar. Kids are allowed to enter until 9pm but have to leave by 10pm.

We did another night at Margaritaville on their Porch of Indecision (deck area) there is a friend of ours named John Frinzi who plays there most T-Th evenings from 5-9pm. Inside there is a band that gets started sometime around 8ish (if I recall) that was very good the night we were there. Also, there are stilt walkers making balloon animals, swords and hats for the kids.

We also did Hard Rock but there was no live music there that night.

There are poolside activities, look for Marianna, at RPR from around noon until 6pm and "dive-in" movies poolside at 7:30 on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Enjoy!

This is exactly the info I was looking for!
Thank you all so much! My kids would love the Pat O'Brien's....and we'll save Mythos for our last night at the park!

i received the email from UO 2 days ago and it states the mini golf opens in February.
superstar parade and cinematic spectacular begins spring.

hopefully some of them will be open when the OP goes to the darkside.

another suggestion is the cinema at city walk.
might be a nice evening to enjoy a movie one night.

P.S. Tuesday night is 2 for 1 night...for anyone else that might be there on a Tuesday.

We'll be there at the same time, and if the weather is the way the forecast show (yeah, sure it'll be exactly like the forecast, LOL), as long as it's not raining, I bet we'll be up for an evenign swim.

Considering the first time we swam at RPR it was literally freezing* outside, the 50s will be downright balmy! (*but oh dear were we cold after we got out of that warm, warm water...)
